Indian medical aspirants always ensure that they meet the minimum eligibility criteria to study MBBS. While the NEET cutoff is one of the major barriers for medical aspirants, minimum eligibility criteria like the aggregate percentage carry equal significance for admission to MBBS. While the NEET score may not be required for MBBS abroad, a minimum score in PCB subjects is mandatory for all students.

Students intending to pursue MBBS abroad must have 50% aggregate in physics, chemistry and biology. This is the minimum requirement for all medical colleges and universities, irrespective of the country. Earlier, marks scored in these subjects were emphasised and later used to offer admission to the MBBS course. Ever since entrance exams were introduced, this minimum percentage requirement has become part of the minimum eligibility criteria.
The purpose of this requirement is to emphasise the high school or grade 12 coursework. Students who studied biology, physics and chemistry should have a minimum score as attestation to their performance and knowledge in these subjects.

The majority of medical colleges and universities require 50% aggregate in PCB. Some countries, such as China, Singapore and top medical institutions in America and Europe, require 70% or above. The minimum percentage requirement varies by institution; each college sets a score to enrol students based on academic standards.
PCB/PCBE Percentage | Universities in China |
80% and above | China Medical University, Sun Yat-sen University, Qingdao University |
70% to 75% | Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Jilin University, Dalian Medical University, Sichuan University |
60% to 65% | Shandong University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University |
Bangladesh: Some of the medical colleges in Bangladesh, such as Khulna City Medical College and Shahabuddin Medical College, require at least 60 % aggregate in PCB.
Western countries: Countries in Europe, Australia, and the US generally set the bar a little higher due to their academic benchmarks. They usually require 85%-90% or specific grades, such as A and B levels, for admission.
Russia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan: These countries, often chosen by Indian students, require only 50% aggregate. Orenburg State Medical University and Astana Medical University strictly follow the 50% PCB rule, which is a relaxation for low-scoring students.
