The TOEFL score is released within 4-8 days after the exam date. TOEFL test scores are generally released on the official ETS website, however, the exact date of the result announcement is mentioned at the end of the exam. TOEFL scores are released in four scaled section scores, which are then combined to calculate total marks. Each section of the ETS TOEFL is graded on a scale of 0 to 30 and the total score is calculated out of 120.

Candidates who applied for the TOEFL Home Edition test will receive their results in their ETS account within six to ten days following the exam date. The TOEFL results are accepted by around 12,000 universities in around 160 countries. A score ranging between 100 - 110 is generally considered to be a good TOEFL score for international students. However, the overall TOEFL cutoff score may vary for different countries and universities. Read the complete article to learn more about TOEFL exam scores and other relevant details.

How are TOEFL Scores Calculated?

ETS TOEFL results can be calculated by using both human raters and automated scoring methods. However, the automated scoring method is considered to be unbiased in comparison to the human raters. TOEFL score is calculated by adding the scores received in each of the four test sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

Each four sections of the ETS TOEFL is scored in a 0-30 range. The overall score is calculated by simply adding them together. This TOEFL score ranges from 0 to 120. Scores are typically available online approximately 10 days after the test date. Students can request a score review if they believe their score is inaccurate.

TOEFL Score Validity

What is TOEFL score validity? TOEFL score 2024 will be valid for two years from the test date. Candidates are recommended to download the TOEFL exam scorecard once it is available. After the TOEFL results validity period, ETS will remove TOEFL scores from the TOEFL login score pages. Canddiates will be able to submit their scores only during the TOEFL exam validity period. Once, the TOEFL result validity expires, the scores can no longer accepted.

If the TOEFL validity period finishes, candidates have to retake the exam if they are applying to universities in English-speaking countries and submit fresh TOEFL scores. Even if candidates have a saved TOEFL scorecard PDF that is more than two years old, it will not be accepted by universities abroad as the TOEFL exam validity has expired.

TOEFL Score Range

TOEFL test results are given in three main categories.

Sectional TOEFL Score: Each of the four sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing) is scored individually. TOEFL grades from each section range from 0 to 30.

Total TOEFL Score: The total TOEFL result is the sum of the sectional scores and represents overall performance on the TOEFL exam. TOEFL grades range from 0 to 120 for the iBT TOEFL.

Rater Comments: For the speaking and writing sections, raters provide comments in addition to TOEFL scores. These comments offer insights into strengths and areas that need improvement for a candidate.

Questions related to TOEFL

GRE (Graduate Record Examination), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) are standardized tests used for different purposes in the academic and professional realms.

GRE is primarily used for admission to graduate programs worldwide, assessing verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills. TOEFL and IELTS evaluate English language proficiency for non-native English speakers applying to universities in English-speaking countries, with TOEFL more common in the U.S. and IELTS widely accepted globally. GMAT, specifically for MBA and other business-related graduate programs, tests analytical writing, integrated reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning skills.

Invicta Consultancy offers tailored guidance on these exams, helping students understand the specific requirements of their chosen universities and programs, providing resources for effective preparation, and ensuring candidates are well-prepared to achieve their desired scores.

Deciding between the IELTS and TOEFL depends on individual strengths and preferences, but generally, candidates find the TOEFL slightly easier due to its multiple-choice format and emphasis on academic English. If you already have good English skills, around 1-3 months of focused preparation is typically sufficient for either test. Invicta Career Consultancy offers personalized guidance to assess your language proficiency and recommend the best test based on your academic goals and target universities. They provide strategic preparation plans, including mock tests and feedback sessions, ensuring you are well-prepared to achieve your desired scores and succeed in your academic pursuits abroad.

  • TOEFL: Completely computer-based test. You will listen to recordings, read passages, write your responses, and speak into a microphone, all on the computer.
  • IELTS: Offers two formats - paper-based and computer-based. The Reading and Writing sections are always on paper, while Listening and Speaking can be paper-based or computer-based depending on the chosen format. The Speaking test, however, is always conducted face-to-face with an examiner in IELTS.

Test Sections:

  • Both Tests: Both IELTS and TOEFL assess your English language proficiency in four key areas: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.
  • Structure: The specific structure and content within these sections can differ slightly between the two tests.

Scoring:

  • TOEFL: Scored out of a total of 120 points. Each section (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) is graded on a scale of 0 to 30.
  • IELTS: Uses a band system from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest). You receive an overall band score and individual band scores for each section.

Focus:

  • TOEFL: Generally considered more focused on American English.

No, neither IELTS nor TOEFL is required for eligibility to study MBA at Seoul National University (SNU) if you are an English speaker from a native English speaking country.SNU requires proof of English proficiency for international students whose first language is not English.
They accept scores from TOEFL iBT (80 or above), TEPS (551 or above), or a minimum Level 4 on the SNU Korean Language Center (KLEC) proficiency test.

SNU's MBA program does not require the GMAT or GRE for admission.
They have their own entrance exam for MBA applicants. This exam typically assesses quantitative and analytical skills, writing abilities, and English proficiency (for non-native English speakers).

In some cases, SNU might consider Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores in place of their own entrance exam, but this is not mandatory.
