    IELTS Latest Updates 2026

IELTS 2026 changes: Effective from mid-2026, the test will no longer be held in paper format; instead, it is mandatory for the candidates to take the exam in only computer-based mode. This has been made mandatory for convenience and faster results.

Paper-based format: Candidates who prefer handwriting can choose a paper-based format, though this will only be available in selected regions. This option will allow applicants to submit handwritten answers in the writing section based on their preferences while answering the rest of the exam in computer-based mode.

Existing paper-based results: All existing paper-based results will be valid and remain the same until the end of the 2-year time period. After this period, no paper-based results will be valid.

One-Skill retake: The option to retake the writing section has been introduced, but it should follow the same delivery mode. If the candidate chooses ‘writing on paper’, the retake of the skill should be only written on paper, not on a computer.

Price change: The price of the IELTS academic paper has changed to 19,000/- from 18,000/-.

This will be effective for the candidates who would like to appear for the test in 2026.

Note: the UKVI IELTS is only available on a computer, which is conducted for the UK-VISA

    approval.

    IELTS Listening

    • AI-driven adaptive questions tailored to candidate responses

    • Enhanced audio clarity for online IELTS

    • The section has an uneven structure, so that candidates would not be able to predict the upcoming questions in the module

    • Audio marker: Markers are introduced in the audio tracks for the listening section to map the progression of the candidate. This marker shows the clear start of the audio and the progression in between. This allows test takers to track and navigate the audio tracks.

Specific questions: All questions must be answered precisely without digression. General answers are not accepted as they are less precise

    Reading section
