The DAAD Germany organisation offers financial aid and scholarship programs for international students. Through the DAAD website, candidates can choose from various scholarship options based on their subject and focus.

Good grades matter for a few scholarships but many other scholarships are given just based on the program and university applied by the candidate. Other qualifications like social commitment, personal achievement, financial need etc., will be considered depending on the scholarship.

Documents Required

Every course and university has varied document requirements. Here is the general list of documents required for applying for a course to study in Germany. However, candidates can check the course requirements separately before applying. 

  • Valid passport - For ID proof.
  • Resume - A CV or resume that details the educational background, work or internship experience and other relevant skills that are essential for the study fields applied by the candidate.
  • Academic transcripts -  This contains the list of courses and their grades for the entire academic program pursued by the candidate.
  • English/German proficiency test scores - If the course chosen by the candidate is an English-taught program, then the candidate should take English proficiency tests like  IELTS and TOEFL. If the course chosen is in German language, then the candidate can take tests like TestDaf, DSH, etc., as per the university requirement.
  • Standardised/ entrance exam scores - Universities may ask for test scores like GRE, GMAT, and JEE scores depending on the course requirements.
  • Proof of health insurance coverage - Students enrolled for a degree program in Germany are eligible for public health insurance The health insurance cost can range from about 109 to 110 Euros.
  • Work experience letters (optional) - Students who have work experience can attach them along with the application. The proof of work experience can include salary slips, offer letters, experience letters, etc.
  • Letter of motivation (optional) - The motivation letter reflects the interests, and perspectives, academics, goals, etc., of the applicant. The main purpose of writing this letter is to convince the admission authority for admission approval.

Part Time Work In Germany

With a Germany student visa, international students can work while studying. Indian students or non-EU students can work for 120 full days or 240 half days a year(including holidays or vacations). If any international student finds a job in the university itself like research, student assistants, etc. they can work for more hours and days and the 120-day working rule is not applied to them. Students can also work for internships which help their career growth.

Students can work for both online and offline part-time jobs in Germany. On average, students get paid up to 10 to 15 Euros per hour by doing these part-time jobs. However, they cannot work as freelancers or be self-employed during their studies. The students can look for part-time job opportunities through university bulletin boards, career centres, online job portals, etc.

Work Permit

International students can work after study in Germany by applying for a post-study work visa. Through this extended student visa, international students can stay back up to 18 months after graduation to look for jobs in Germany. 

During these 18 months, the candidate can work for either full-time or part-time or any job related or not related to their field of study. If the candidate finds a job in Germany that cannot be filled by a German national or gets a job as a highly skilled worker with a salary of more than 43,992 Euros, they can apply for a work permit to work and stay in Germany. Once the candidate finds a job, the residence permit issued for the study will be converted to employment.
