GRE Registration 2018 - The most widely used method for registering for GRE® General Test is online. The registration modes for GRE 2018 General Test and Subject Test, are same. There are two methods to register for GRE 2018- Online, Phone. Candidates can also request an authorization voucher by mail. International students are suggested to opt for online GRE 2018 registration. Online registration is available to aspirants for both GRE 2018 General as well as subject tests. An account needs to be created with ETS® before the candidates can register for the GRE 2018 General Test. The account will also be the main account for any GRE correspondence, including rescheduling and GRE results. During GRE test registration, candidates have the option of sending their GRE scores as many as four graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors.

After the candidates ascertain their GRE 2018 Eligibility, they can select the date of their choice as well as examination centre at the time of GRE registration 2018. Though GRE test is available all around the year at PrometricTM centres, aspirants are suggested to book the GRE test date 2018 well in advance as the seats fill up fast. Candidates can also select whether they want to appear for the GRE General Test or GRE Subject Test, through online GRE test registration 2018. The result of the GRE Test or GRE scores can will be available to the candidates in their ETS accounts.

 

GRE Registration 2018 - Online

Online GRE 2018 registration is the most widely used method for registering for GRE 2018 Test. There are a few things to remember when candidates are registering for GRE Test 2018.

 

Create ETS account: Candidates interested to pursue graduate program abroad have to create an ETS account to start the GRE registration process. In case the candidates already have a TOEFL® or Praxis® account, they can use the same one for registering for GRE Exam. If not, candidates will be required to create an account. Like all other account creating procedures, to create an ETS account, candidates have to enter personal details, address, phone numbers and communication preferences. The next step asks the candidates to input their username and password preferences along with a security question. You can create your account by entering user name and password details. Once you enter a valid username and password, ETS reviews the information that you have submitted and creates an account for candidates. Candidates can use this account to view their test, test preparation, view scores etc.

 

Step 2:

Select test type: After registering with ETS, candidates can register for GRE 2018 test. Aspirants can select the type of test they want to appear for i.e. GRE general or subjects test. Next, they can look for the test being conducted at the location of their choice. Candidates can look for the test centres of their choice by the location or can even type the name of the state they live in to see the various centres and the testing dates for that centre for a two-month period. Applicants can type in their locations and click on ‘find available test centres’. This step gives a list of all the GRE 2018 test centres available.

 

Step 3:

Next, the GRE 2018 test dates which are available are displayed in green. Candidates are required to click the available date results shown to display the various GRE 2018 test centres. The same also informs whether the test is computer-based, the directions to the test centre and a link on the “Show test times” to know what test times are available to the candidate.

This shows a list of test times at the GRE 2018 test centre that the candidate has chosen. Along with the time, seat availability is also shown. Candidates can click “Register” next to seat availability for GRE registration 2018.

 

Step 4:

Personal and Academic Background: Clicking the “Register” link takes the candidate to the page which displays their personal details. Candidates can change information here by clicking the “edit” button. They can also change the test information here by clicking “Edit Test information” button.

In the next step, of the GRE registration 2018, candidates are asked to enter background information, including country, educational status, native language and reasons for taking GRE. Candidates also have to enter details of GPA and other educational qualifications. Further, candidates may be asked to fill in details about their parents’ highest education Applicants are also asked about their study preferences like what they want to study and their preferred location.

 

Step 5:

Payment: In the last step of GRE registration 2018, candidates have to make payment for GRE. If candidates also select ETS study materials to prepare from, the cost will be added to the final cost of GRE registration 2018. Candidates are given the option of online payment through American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA.

Besides online, candidates can opt for GRE registration 2018 through the following ways:

 

GRE Registration 2018 by Phone

Aspirants from United States, Guam, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, or Canada can call the Prometric Services at 1-443-751-4280 for GRE 2018 Registration by phone. Aspirants from other parts of the world are required to call the Regional Registration Center (RRC). Candidates are advised to call at least two days before the desired GRE 2018 test date. A confirmation number, reporting time and test center address is given to the candidate during the call. In this mode too, payment for GRE Test Registration 2018 is made through credit or debit card only American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA. To pay via paper check or money order, candidates are required to request for an authorization voucher by mail. For the GRE registration 2018, candidates are required to download and fill-up the Authorization voucher form and mail it with the paper check or money order to the address mentioned on the form. The process can take up to three weeks.

On receiving the authorization voucher, candidates can register online or call the Prometric Center or RRC and schedule an appointment.

 

GRE Registration Fee

For GRE registration, aspirants are required to pay for the test. The cost of ETS test preparation materials, if selected, will be added to the total amount of registration. Payment for the GRE 2018 General test can be done online through various credit and debit cards such as American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA. GRE registration fee is same for most countries with an exception of Australia and China.

Approved ID documents for GRE 2018

Barring some exceptions, the ID documents for GRE 2018 should meet all of the requirements mentioned below. The ID document must:

  • The document should be an original document. Photocopied or scanned documents are not acceptable

  • The ID should also be the one which is issued by the government. That means it should be recognized by the country in which the candidate is either a citizen or a permanent resident.

  • The documents should be current and valid. The expiration dates of the documents should not have passed.

  • It should also have the complete name of the candidate. The name of the candidate in the identification document and the GRE test registration should be exactly same.

  • The document should also include a recent recognizable picture of the candidate.

  • The document shall also include the signature of the candidate,

Candidates are required to provide information of their identification documents while registering for GRE 2018. It is important here to remember that the name should provided should be exactly the same as on the identification documents that they will be producing at the GRE 2018 test centre on the exam day. Any discrepancy in the name can result in cancellation of the GRE registration 2018.

Passport or social identity cards issued by the government can be used as ID. The candidates should bear in mind that ID requirements might vary owing to conditions like country to which the candidate is applying or the country in which he/she plans to take the GRE 2018 test.

 

Below is the list of documents which will not be accepted as ID documents

  • Xerox copy or expired

  • Credit/ Debit card

  • International student ID

  • Employee ID card

  • Any document which does not contain applicant’s last name

  • Social security card

  • International driving license

  • Embassy/ Diplomatic ID card

  • Temporary ID card

In cases where the candidate can not produce the required ID as in case of refugees, applicants are are suggested to report to the ETS Office of Testing Integrity (OTI) seven working days before registering for the GRE test. Aspirants should be able to submit the other required documents required by them. In ability to contact the OTI will result in the candidate not being allowed to take the test.

 

The name candidates use for GRE Registration

Extra care should be taken by aspirants while registering for the GRE test as wrong name or missing alphabets may result in cancellation of the GRE 2018 registration form. Test takers are advised not to register with nicknames as it is not accepted by the authorities. Candidates should know that it is compulsory to register with their first and last name as mentioned in the ID proof.

 

What to do if your name has changed

In cases where the candidates have changed their name post marriage or for any other official purpose. Candidates must report the same to the OTI and submit the related required documents which have authorised the change of name.

 

 Rescheduling of GRE 2018

Candidates are allowed to reschedule or cancel the test. The rescheduling or cancellations should be done no later than four days before the GRE test date. Cancellation of the test within four days within the test will result in loss of GRE exam fee. For aspirants from China the reschedule period is 10 days before the GRE test date.

The refund fee will depend on the test candidates plan to take: Computer based test or Paper-based test.

GRE is a standardised test that is accepted for admission to various disciplines at many graduate and business schools across the globe. Aspirants who are interested in pursuing a master's degree, specialised master's course, MBA or doctoral degree can sit for the GRE 2018. There is no specific GRE eligibility criteria. Aspirants can apply for GRE registration 2018 irrespective of age and qualification.
