The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the world’s largest funding organization that provides funding to international students and scholars. DAAD offers various scholarships to international students to explore the educational opportunities in Germany.

 

Development-Related Postgraduate Courses - Educating Professionals for Sustainable Development (EPOS)

EPOS is offered to the most talented international graduates with at least two years’ of work experience. The scholarship is given to candidates who wish to undertake a postgraduate course in Germany. The funding is provided for 12-36 months.

Application requirements:

  • The candidate must have completed his/her Bachelor’s degree not longer than six years at the time of applying

  • The candidate must have at least two years’ of work experience

Application procedure:

There is no separate application for EPOS. The candidate must apply for it along with the course application.

Value of award:

  • Tuition fee
  • A monthly payment of â‚¬750 for graduate students and €1000 for doctoral students
  • Travel allowance
  • Payment towards accident and health coverage

Masters' Scholarships in Public Policy & Good Governance (PPGG)

PPGG is offered to graduate students who are undertaking Master’s courses in any of the selected universities in Germany for courses such as Good Governance, Public Policy, International Relations, Administration, Public Management and Civil Society.

Application requirements:

  • High score in graduation

  • Knowledge in English and German

  • Political and social engagement of the candidate

Application procedure:

There is no separate application for PPGG. The candidate must apply for it along with the course application. The application checklist for the scholarship is:

  • DAAD application for research grants and scholarships submitted to the university
  • Motivation letter mentioning the reasons for choosing the programme
  • Copy of all academic certificates
  • CV
  • Language certificates
  • Two letters of recommendation

Value of award:

  • Full tuition fee
  • A monthly stipend of â‚¬750 for graduate students and €1000 for doctoral students
  • Travel allowance
  • Payment towards health and accident coverage

Research grants for doctoral programmes- PhD scholarships

The research grants are provided to young academicians and scientists from other countries to give them an opportunity to carry out research and explore educational opportunities in Germany. The funding is provided for a maximum of three years. In some cases, DAAD extends the award to fourth year.

 

Application requirements:

  • The candidate must have a Master’s degree with first class
  • The candidates who have been staying in Germany for more than 15 months are not eligible to apply
  • The candidate must have completed his/her Bachelor’s in not more than six years during the time of applying

Application procedure:

The candidates must apply for the scholarship online through DAAD website. The website will upload the application form only during the time of the process. The supporting documents needed to submit along with the application form are:

  • Completed application form
  • CV
  • List of publications
  • Detailed research proposal
  • Expected time to start research
  • Letter confirming the supervision from the university

Need to send via post

  • The application summary generated in PDF version from the website
  • Health certificate
  • Two letters of recommendation

  •  A monthly payment of â‚¬750 for graduate students and €1000 for doctoral students
  • Travel allowance
  • Research allowance
  • Payment towards accident and health coverage
  • One-off research allowance
  • Monthly rent subsidy
  • Monthly allowance for family members

Re-invitation Programme for Former Scholarship Holders

The re-invitation programme for former scholarship holders is given to the DAAD scholarship alumni to carry out research and do further studies in Germany.

Application requirements:

  • The candidate must have obtained funding from DAAD for more than six months
  • The research work the candidate is planning to undertake must be coordinated with a cooperation partner in Germany

Application procedure:

Need to be uploaded

  • The completed application form
  • CV
  • Academic publications
  • Comprehensive report about the research project the candidate is going to undertake
  • Letter from host institution confirming academic cooperation
  • Certificate from employer granting paid research leave

Need to send via post

  • The application summary generated by the official website in PDF format

Value of award:

  • Monthly payment of €2000 for assistant teacher, assistant professors and lecturers
  • Monthly payment of €2150 for professors
  • Travel allowance
