There is no single IELTS cutoff for admission into a specific academic programme or university. The IELTS cut-off score varies for each university. The level of study and programme specifications also act as determining factors in determining the minimum IELTS requirements for top-tier universities. IELTS cut-off for undergraduate courses is comparatively lower than for master's courses in top universities. The ranking, popularity, and location of the universities also influence the overall IELTS cutoff score requirement. For instance, IELTS cutoff scores for top universities like MIT, Harvard, Stanford, and others generally range from 7 or 8. Whereas, the minimum cutoff score for Bristol, Warwick, McMaster University, and Waterloo is around 6.0.

IELTS scores are graded on a scale of 1 to 9. The IELTS results are declared based on a 9-band scale. There are no IELTS exam total marks as such. IELTS requirements for prestigious universities like Harvard and Stanford are 7 or 8. IELTS Reading, IELTS Writing, IELTS Speaking, and IELTS Listening make up the four portions of the IELTS exam.

The pre-established cutoff for both the overall IELTS exam score and the sectional IELTS score applies to universities that accept IELTS scores. Admission to these universities is based on the overall IELTS band score chart. IDP, the organisation in charge of administering the IELTS 2024, does not announce any IELTS cutoff 2024 scores. IDP only releases the TRF (Test Report Form) and IELTS results at the same time. The IELTS cutoff score varies from one university to another and may vary for each program. In fact, some top universities accept only the IELTS score for admission. Read the complete article to learn more about IELTS cutoff 2024.

What is IELTS Band Score?

English language proficiency in IELTS is measured through Band scores assigned from 0-9. A high band score implies high level of English language proficiency. A low band score implies a low English language proficiency. Every number between 0-9 has a corresponding assessment term that will be given to a candidate. Usually, IELTS cutoffs are specified in terms of minimum band scores by universities abroad. How Are IELTS Scores Calculated?

The scores mentioned in the IDP IELTS result are based on the scores given for each test component namely, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. These individual scores are then averaged. These average scores are generally considered by universities to decide IELTS exam cut offs. The overall IELTS band score chart gives the rounded score of the individual scores whose average is taken. The average is rounded as given in the examples below.

If you have completed a master's degree in the UK, you might still need to take the IELTS test to qualify for a Permanent Residency (PR) or Work Visa in Australia. While your degree from an English-speaking country like the UK may demonstrate your proficiency in English, Australian immigration authorities typically require a standardized English language test score, such as IELTS, to assess your language skills formally.

For better guidance, Invicta Institute can provide you with detailed information and assistance regarding the specific English language requirements for Australian PR or Work Visa applications. Invicta's experienced counselors can help you navigate the process and determine if your UK degree suffices or if you need to take the IELTS test.

Since you're currently in the first year of your Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), planning ahead for your MBA abroad is a wise decision. This timing ensures that your IELTS score, which is valid for two years, will still be valid when you apply for MBA programs. I recommend reaching out to a reputable abroad education advisor, as they can assist you throughout the entire process from start to finish. One such company is Invicta Career Consultancy, which offers specialized training, guidance, and support for studying abroad. It is very highly unlikely to obtain a legitimate IELTS certificate without taking the exam. Any claims suggesting otherwise are likely scams. It is essential to take the exam through authorized testing centers to ensure the validity and credibility of the certificate.

For better guidance, Invicta Institute can help you determine which test suits your goals and provide tailored coaching to maximize your performance on either version of the IELTS.
