The exam is taken by students who wish to apply to universities abroad in countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and more. In case someone is interested in taking the DET exam, they must ensure that the chosen universities accept the DET score for admission to their undergraduate or postgraduate programmes. However, all applicants must ensure two important points.
Test takers must provide the required identification documents. Indian applicants are required to provide their passport as a valid ID for the Duolingo test.
The system of candidates must meet the Duolingo requirements to take the test at home.

There are no separate eligibility requirements for candidates with disabilities, but Duolingo does provide accommodations for those who require them. However, these requests must be made prior to the exam. These accommodations can include things like:

Duolingo is accepted in multiple countries around the world, some of which include, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, etc. Universities in these countries have their own minimum score requirement that makes the candidate eligibile for applying to the university.
DET is accepted in several universities in the USA. The minimum Duolingo score requirement is 100 and 120. However each institution might have its own set of additional requirements, including minimum scores for skills like literacy, comprehension, conversation, and production. Duolingo scores are also accepted for US student visa.
Universities in UK accept a score that ranges between 105-120. However competitive schools might ask for higher scores like 120-130. Note that DET scores are not accepted for a UK student visa.
Canadian universities also accept Duolingo scores that range between 105 and 125. However, a competitive school might require a DET score between 120 and 130. Additionally, some programs may have specific requirements for subscores. However, for a Canadian student visa, DET scores are not accepted.
Australia does not accept DET scores for an Australian student visa. However, to apply to universities in Australia, you will require a score of 105-125. Note that each university and course has different admission requirements. Always double-check the eligibility requirements before applying.

The score of the DET 2025 is valid for two years from the date of the Duolingo test result. Students can submit scores that are two years old when applying to Duolingo accepting universities. Duolingo is widely accepted by over 6,000 universities across various countries, including the UK, USA, Canada, Japan, Thailand, and more.
The Duolingo English Test allows candidates to take the test up to three times within 30 days. Applicants can buy and complete the test three times during these 30 days. If any candidate faces any technical issues that stop their test from being uploaded or certified, they can retake it at no extra charge, as long as they still have attempts left on their credit.

The Duolingo English Test exam fee in India is INR 5,180 (USD 59). Candidates are required to pay the exam fee at the time of registration. Students can pay either through a credit card or through PayPal.
One can take the DET as many times as one wishes, however it can be taken only twice in a period of 30 days and one cannot register for the test till one receives the results of the previous attempt.

Scores above 120 are considered exceptional and students are easily granted admission to the university of their choice, provided they meet other entry requirements as well.
After purchasing the test, candidates have three attempts to use the credit to complete and upload the Duolingo English test. Any time the test takers begin their test, it is counted as an attempt.
