    About Yale University

    Founded in 1701, Yale university is the third oldest university for higher education in the USA. It is a private ivy league institution and is among Times Higher Education top 10 world universities since 2019. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, the university has 14 residential colleges– the original Yale undergraduate College, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and 12 professional schools. As of now, 22% of international students enrolled in the university programs representing 119 countries across the world. 

    Yale university acceptance rate is 6% and admissions are highly selective. Prospective students must have an aggregate GPA of 3.5 or above to be considered for admission.     Yale University Application Process

    Yale university undergraduate admissions have early action and regular decision rounds. However, postgraduate applications have only one round of admissions and have different deadlines for different courses. The intake is through fall and spring sessions. While UG applications happen through Coalition Application, Common Application or Questbridge Application, students must apply to PG courses through respective course-specific application portals.

    • Choose the course you want to apply for.

    • Undergraduate students must apply through one of the three application options– Coalition Application, Common Application, or Questbridge Application.

    • Post graduate students can only apply through respective course-specific application portals.

    • Enter personal information details.

    • Throughout the University, there are student organisations built on connecting interests, sports and recreational facilities, student groups & activities, residential accommodations, libraries and health facilities available.

    • There are 2,200 acres of parks, 40 co-ed club sports, intramural sports and recreational programs for people of all ages. Recreational programs are open 24/7 at the university for the students to relax and rejuvenate themselves.

    • Every incoming first-year UG student is randomly assigned to one of fourteen residential colleges. So, they join a built-in community of diverse student population from the moment they arrive on campus. Along with a close-knit community, all residential colleges boast stunning, state-of-the-art residences.

    • There are dining halls that provide chef-prepared meals with diverse choices including vegetarian and vegan.     Yale University Library is the 3rd largest university collection in the USA. Sterling Memorial Library is the largest library at Yale and a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. It offers 4 million volumes of resources. There are a total of 14 libraries at Yale University:

    Yale highly encourages students participating in various competitive and recreational sports for the health and well-being of the student community. There are a range of indoor and outdoor facilities along with coaching and mentorship. Students can join in 30 men’s and women’s varsity teams, 40 club sports, intramural programs for recreation, gymnasium for fitness and well-being. 

    Popular sports include Baseball, basketball, Crew (Heavyweight & Lightweight), Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Squash, swimming, Soccer, Tennis, Rowing, Gymnastics. 23 outdoor and indoor sports facilities include Reese Stadium, Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, The Yale Golf Course, Kiphuth Exhibition Pool etc.

    On campus transportation facilities are available with shuttle services that serve Yale University New Haven Campus and the West Campus. Shuttle maps are available on the official website. Shuttle facilities. Shuttle services are open Monday – Friday between 6:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. 

    Yale’s Shuttle service allows carrying pets and collects zero fares from patrons. Motor bikes, bicycling are allowed to get around the campus with limited parking facilities that have fees. There is a car sharing program for students with discounted membership accessible on many campus locations and in city neighbourhoods through Zipcar. The university is well connected to all nearby rail and airport facilities.

Students can relish coffees and teas, freshly baked bagels and pastries, sandwiches and soups for lunch, fresh fruit, yoghourts, juices, and a variety of natural and organic snack.

    Auditorium

    Yale university has sufficient auditorium facilities for organising conferences, workshops, recreational shows and more. 

    • Woolsey Hall is the major auditorium with 2,650-seat capacity and mostly music concerts are organised. 
    • Davies Auditorium (Becton Center) is exclusively for lecture sessions and seminars. It has 2 Lecture Halls and 2 Seminar Rooms with a 265 seating capacity. 
    • Kroon Hall has 1 Auditorium with seating capacity for 175 people, 2 Lecture Halls with 30 seating capacity, and 2 Seminar Rooms with seating capacities of 30 and 45 respectively. 
    • Davenport Pierson Auditorium is used for stand-up comedy shows, dance shows, and music shows etc.
    • In addition, Yale School of Management has Zhang Auditorium with a 350 seating capacity.

    Yale University International Office Details

    There are 22% of international students at Yale university. Being one among ivy league colleges, international students can get aid in all areas including immigration advising and support, cultural adjustment, concerns regarding taxes, social security cards, social connections, or practical concerns regarding accommodation, scholarships and part-time work during studies. Centre for Language Study (CLS) provides English language support to international students whose first language is not English through ELP (English Language Platform). 

    Every year, new Ph.D, and GSAS degree students are invited to take up a 3-week ELP Summer Academic Language Program. The Office of International Students & Scholars provides a range of advice and assistance with regard to immigration and VISA requirements, applying for social security cards and much more.

    Yale University Accommodation

    Yale University has 14 residential colleges. All the first year undergraduates are guaranteed housing in one of the 14 residential facilities. However, graduate housing facilities are limited and not guaranteed. Around 58% of the students live in college-owned, operated, or affiliated housing and 42% of students live in off campus housings. Eligibility for availing graduate campus accommodation is - 

    • Students must have enrolled in, or are matriculating into the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences or other Professional Schools at Yale University.

    • Visiting researchers, post-docs, interns, hospital residents, etc are not eligible for University Graduate Housing.
