Unlike other courses, all students who wish to pursue MBBS must be 17 years old at the time of admission. NMC and foreign medical colleges have mandated this requirement to ensure that students are mature enough to learn and practice medicine. By the age of 17, candidates of both genders, male and female, can discern and learn with emotional, physical and mental maturity. At this age, their emotional intelligence and physical attributes improve learning. This phase of maturity enables students to be competent in learning and medical practice and be on par with the academic rigour.
All countries across the world strictly mandate the minimum age requirement for both international and domestic students. By the time of admission, students should be at least 17 years of age.
Students should not confuse the pre med course with the MBBS age limit. Generally, countries like Canada, the US and Australia require students to complete a pre med course before joining an MBBS course and enrol candidates below the age of 17 years. This is essential to provide students with education on preliminary subjects. Unlike India, Canada and Australia still require students to complete this course before joining MBBS. However, the minimum age limit for MBBS remains the same across the globe.
