    Age Requirement

Age requirement is one of the MBBS abroad eligibility criteria for Indian students. Every Indian student planning to pursue MBBS abroad must meet this criterion. At the time of admission, students must fulfil the minimum age requirement. The minimum age requirement to study MBBS abroad is 17 years old. There is no maximum age limit to pursue MBBS abroad, as many of the countries do not have an upper age limit. Anyhow, it is recommended that Indian students verify the specific university age requirements before applying for the MBBS admission.

    Academic Qualification

Indian students must complete their Class 10 and Class 12 from recognised boards, including state boards, ICSE, CBSE, and other relevant boards. The mandatory subjects that students must learn in classes 10 and 12 include physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and English.

Minimum Marks Requirements for MBBS Abroad

Basically, different countries and universities demand different minimum percentages in Class 12th to allocate the MBBS admission for Indian students. However, many of the foreign universities demand 50% marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology) subjects for general category students and 40% marks in PCB subjects for reserved-category students.

A few foreign universities demand higher percentages for Indian students to be eligible to pursue MBBS in their universities.

    Mandatory NEET Qualification Requirement

Mandatory NEET qualification is one of the eligibility criteria for MBBS abroad from India. Therefore, every Indian student must clear the NEET examination conducted in India to study MBBS abroad 2026. Also, the NEET qualification is necessary for Indians planning to practise in India after pursuing MBBS abroad. Indian students can have enough time to secure proper MBBS abroad admission with the NEET score, as the NEET score is valid for three years.

    English Language Requirement

As per the NMC guidelines, choosing the English-taught MBBS course is mandatory for Indian students planning to appear for the FMGE examination and practise in India. Choosing the English-taught MBBS program in foreign universities requires Indian students to prove their English language proficiency. Thus, Indian students should appear for the IELTS and TOEFL exams to prove their English proficiency. Indian students need to submit language proficiency certificates to study MBBS in European countries, as some universities demand those certificates.

However, many universities in foreign countries, like Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and more, do not ask Indian students to prove their proficiency; instead, they demand basic English proficiency from Indians. Students should possess good communication and understanding skills in English since the MBBS abroad is taught in English.

    Entrance Exam Requirement

In addition to considering the NEET qualification, some foreign universities conduct their own entrance examinations for Indian students before allocating them MBBS admission. Basically, these tests are conducted to evaluate the students' knowledge in subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. If the Indian students meet the minimum score in their entrance exams, universities allocate MBBS seats.

On the other hand, many of the universities in foreign countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, consider only the NEET qualification to allocate direct MBBS admission for Indian students and do not conduct any additional entrance examinations.

    Passport and Visa

Indian students need a valid passport and a student visa to pursue MBBS abroad. Therefore, Indian students planning to pursue MBBS abroad should make sure that they have a passport and a visa.

    Medical Fitness Requirement

Indian students planning to study MBBS abroad should be medically fit, as many foreign universities demand medical fitness for Indians. Indian students should also submit medical certificates, including a general medical fitness certification, an HIV report, and vaccination records, during the application process to foreign universities.

Alongside, many of the foreign medical universities ask Indian students to take a valid health insurance policy to study MBBS abroad. It is also necessary for Indian students to have healthcare insurance throughout their studies.

Indian Students Should Avoid Some Common Mistakes

During the application process or the MBBS admission process, Indian students make some common mistakes. The common mistakes that students should avoid include the following:

    • Applying for the MBBS without the NEET qualification.

    • Choosing an unrecognised university to study MBBS abroad.
