MBBS, also known as the field of medicine and health sciences, has witnessed significant growth among the youth in India in recent years. Currently, there is a notable increase in the number of students opting to study MBBS abroad compared to a few years ago. This trend is mainly due to the limited seats of government medical colleges and the high tuition fees charged by private medical colleges, which have compelled a large number of Indian students to go for MBBS admission abroad.
State-of-the-art medical universities, coupled with unparalleled facilities and renowned professors, have made pursuing an MBBS abroad a significant achievement for Indian students. Studying MBBS abroad not only offers students a chance to gain international exposure and practice in a foreign country but also provides them with a comprehensive experience that will help them remain abreast of the latest advancements in the field of medical science.
It is to be noted that students aspiring to study MBBS abroad should obtain eligibility certificate for MBBS abroad beforehand from the National Medical Commission (NMC). Read the entire article to know how to apply for eligibility certificate online.
Indian students aspiring to pursue MBBS abroad must obtain an eligibility certificate from NMC. To obtain an eligibility certificate from the National Medical Council (NMC), it is mandatory for students to apply in the specified format given in the official website of NMC. To be eligible for MBBS abroad, students must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English (40% marks for students belonging to reserved categories) in their 12th standard exams. Besides, students must be over 17 years of age, in accordance with the NMC guidelines.

It is to be noted that requests for issuance of Eligibility Certificate will be rejected if the candidate does not meet any of the criteria at any stage of the application process. Candidates are advised to go through the official website to know how to apply MCI eligibility certificate online.
If a student enrols in a foreign medical college on or after June 5th, 2019, he/she is required to clear the NEET examination in accordance with the regulations. The NEET Certificate/Score Card will serve as the Eligibility Certificate for these candidates. Any applications received without a NEET score will not be considered and will be promptly rejected.
It should also be noted that in accordance with the regulations, all students planning to pursue their MBBS abroad after 2014 must obtain the Eligibility Certificate prior to proceeding abroad for their studies. It is to be mentioned that the Eligibility Certificate granted to students is solely provisional and does not grant any recognition to their chosen course or permanent registration.
Students aspiring to study MBBS abroad can apply for the eligibility certificate online. Below we have given steps regarding how to apply for eligibility certificate online:
Step 1: New User Registration: Applicants interested in applying must create an online profile to generate a unique User ID and Password for student login.
Step 2: Student Login: Candidates should start by registering on the official website of NMC (https://www.nmc.org.in/) and accessing the student login section on the homepage through (https://www.nmc.org.in/ActivitiWebClient/open/studentregistrationHome).
Step 3: After the completion of the registration form, applicants will receive their login credentials along with a one-time password on their registered email IDs. The login credentials will enable the candidate to access the eligibility certificate and proceed with the online application.
Step 4: Once you sign in, you will receive a notification to change your password.
Step 5: To initiate the online application procedure, log in using your new password on your Student Login.
Subsequently, select the Eligibility Certificate followed by clicking on "Raise a Request". You may now proceed to fill out the form, with the option to save partially by clicking on the Save as Draft button highlighted in blue.
The User ID/Application ID and password generated will be sent to the applicant’s registered email address for future reference.
The candidate must furnish all details given in the Eligibility Criteria section. It is advisable for candidates to have the necessary information readily available prior to starting the application process.
Candidates should upload their photograph and all other prescribed documents.
Finally, applicants should agree to the declaration and submit the online Application.
It is recommended that candidates should take a printout of the completed Application form including the Transaction ID for record-keeping purposes.
If a candidate forgets his/her Login password, he/she can recover it by selecting the ‘Forgot Your Password’ option.
Note: Candidates are advised to go through the instructions carefully in the official website of NMC before filling up the application form.
Candidates need to pay a fee of INR 2360/- (INR 2000 + GST @18% = INR 2,360/-) to obtain the eligibility certificate for studying MBBS abroad. In terms of fee payment, candidates should keep in mind the following:
Once an application is submitted, it cannot be withdrawn. The application fee will not be carried forward to a later date or refunded under any circumstances. Any requests for a refund, adjustment, or carrying forward of the application fee will not be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted and the fee has been paid.
The required fee for the certificate must be paid via the designated payment gateway using a Credit Card or a Debit Card issued by Indian banks, or through other available modes as indicated on the website. Payment of the fee is restricted to the payment gateway accessible during the online application submission process.
Candidates can also initiate an online payment through the ‘PayU’ option from the provided dropdown menu. This will redirect you to the payment gateway window, where you can complete the transaction using your credit card, debit card, or through Net Banking. Besides, you have the option to make the payment using UPI.
