For Indian students planning to pursue MBBS abroad, the United Kingdom has become a preferred country. On par with the US, the United Kingdom is one of the top countries with reputable medical colleges and universities. However, in recent times, the United Kingdom has been banning certain medical colleges for rule violations. In addition, several students are illegally immigrating to the country in the name of studying MBBS. Considering these illegal activities, the United Kingdom has issued a few rules for international students to ensure good educational standards. In this article, we explain all the precautions to take while applying to UK medical universities

Ensure that the selected college is recognised
Recently, the NMC has stopped recognising the colleges. For this reason, students should check the credibility of the colleges they are considering. Medical colleges in the UK are recognised by local boards, such as the OfS register (Office of Students).
Also, check the status of the institutions, whether approved as fee-capped or non-fee-capped.
This is important before applying to any medical college because illegal medical colleges in the UK often mislead applicants to defraud them.
Beware of fake websites
Fake websites are created in the name of unestablished medical institutions. These medical colleges do not exist, but they still accept applications for the MBBS course. These applications are invalid as they do not enrol students in any medical school. Moreover, these websites are shut down as soon as the application window closes. Any paid money in the form of tuition fees or application fees cannot be retrieved.
In case of any fraud or any issue, please contact OfS to register your complaint.
Fake Degrees
Medical colleges and universities in the United Kingdom offer degrees that lack minimum educational standards. When colleges fail to maintain minimum standards such as practicals and adequate theoretical classes, the course time will no longer be considered valid. For this reason, these degrees are considered invalid.
Thousands of Indian students were found to be cheating in the TOEIC exam. Many test centres were accused of assisting applicants in passing the test. Moreover, all the candidates who cheated in this exam were later deported.
In spite of that, the UK government also cancelled the sponsorships of certain medical colleges that enrolled students without screening their documents because many students with fake certifications and test results were admitted. Almost 36,000 students had their sponsorships cancelled due to falsification of their documents.

These colleges closely monitor admissions of students and their attendance. When students fail to provide valid proof of their stay or do not attend college regularly, the administration will cancel their admission and deport them to their home country.
However, students who acknowledge they joined a fake college will also be deported. In addition, there will be no compensation for paid tuition fees even though the students comply with all the regulations.
