The Visa application process is crucial for those seeking to pursue higher education in Ukraine. In recent years, Ukraine has become widely recognized as a top destination for students looking to study abroad. If you are planning to do MBBS abroad, Ukraine can prove to be a great study abroad destination for your medical studies. With approximately 800 institutions providing higher education, Ukraine has emerged as a global hub for international students. Prospective medical or dental students planning to pursue their studies in Ukraine must obtain a type D long-stay visa. To study in Ukraine, you need a Ukraine student visa to remain in the country for more than three months. To secure a long-stay Ukraine study visa, individuals must meet certain eligibility criteria such as being the citizens of any other country that mandate a visa for entry, or belonging to nations that have established agreements allowing visa-free stays of up to 90 days (for purposes such as tourism, personal visits, or business) in Ukraine.

    • No New Language Required: With 90% of courses being offered in English, there is no need to learn a new language to study in Ukraine.

    Ukraine Study Visa Requirements

In order to be eligible for a Ukraine study visa, applicants must meet certain criteria. These include:

    • The applicant must be at least 17 years old by December 31st of the year of admission.

    • The applicant should have scored a minimum of 50% in previous exams (or 40% for reserved categories).

    • The applicant should have studied English as a compulsory subject.

    • The applicant should possess the university's admission letter along with all necessary documents for the visa application.

How to Apply for a Student Visa in Ukraine?

In order to acquire a long-stay Ukraine study visa (type D), an aspiring student must provide a set of documents to the consulate or embassy of Ukraine in their home country. The complete list of embassy locations and contact information can be found on the website of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

When submitting your documents, it is essential to include the original Invitation Letter regardless of the submission location. It is to be noted that documents from previous education must be officially certified before being submitted to the consulate. This can be achieved through either legalization by the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of Ukraine in an applicant’s home country, or certification by Apostille stamp and legalization at the Embassy of Ukraine in an applicant’s home country. It is imperative that these documents are officially recognized in Ukraine for a Ukrainian university to issue the diploma certificate upon graduation.

Universities must register all study invitations with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine before giving them to applicants. Once the registration process is over, the Ministry gives official confirmation (visa support) to the Consulate of Ukraine in different countries. Without this registration, Consulates cannot accept documents from international students or issue Ukraine student visas.

Upon reception of an invitation letter, the student must reach out to the Ukrainian embassy in their respective country to initiate the Ukraine student visa application process.

Most Ukrainian embassies usually receive and process Ukraine study visa applications throughout the year. However, in certain countries, visa applications are accepted and visas are issued from 15th July to 15th November. In such cases, extensions are granted for the preparatory course until November or December.
