The University of Chicago is a private research university in Chicago, Illinois, United States founded in 1890 by John D. Rockefeller. The University was accredited by the HLC (Higher Learning Commission).

The University of Chicago Cost Of Living

Depending on the programme of study, different credits are needed; one complete unit is equal to 3 1/3 semester hours or 5 quarter hours at the university. The undergraduate programme will cost $63,801 in tuition for the 2023–2024 academic year, not including living expenses, student fees, or meal plans. 

Nevertheless, there is an additional $72,000 in tuition at the Booth School of Business. For postgraduate courses, the tuition costs for the Autumn, Spring, and Winter quarters range from $21,715 to $39,178 per quarter.

In addition, $4,917 is the cost of health insurance for university students. These numbers represent the various costs related to the various academic programmes and lengths of study offered by the university.

All international applicants can begin their application to the University of Chicago through Coalition, i.e., the Scoir website, or a Common Application (CommonApp). The Application fee is $75 for students not applying for need-based scholarships. Students applying for need-based scholarships have a fee waiver.

  • Create a UChicago Account by going to the Account webpage of the website.

  • Log in to the application portal, and start filling out the application form.

  • Track the admission status and other course updates on the Uchicago Account.

  • Fill out the application for need-based scholarships, and check out the other financial aid options available.

Documents required for admission:

  • Academic Transcripts: Secondary school Transcripts for Undergraduate and College reports and transcripts for graduate admissions.

The University of Chicago Scholarship

The University has allocated $20 million for need-based scholarships over the past four years, assisting students with financial needs. Applicants can apply for funding during the admission process, offering support based on demonstrated financial necessity.

Merit-based scholarships, although partially funded, do not require the students to fill a separate application. These scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence, involvement in extracurricular activities, commitment to community service, and demonstrated leadership qualities. The minimum award for these scholarships is at least $2,000. Merit-based scholarships, such as the First Phoenix Scholarship and the National Policy and Fire Scholarship, are available to eligible students.

The University of Chicago Eligibility

Undergraduate:

  • The admission requirements to apply for an Undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago are different for every course. 

  • Students applying for undergraduate admissions should aim for the 75th percentile in their senior year of high school.

  • Candidates might make up for a lower GPA if necessary with a higher SAT or ACT score.

Graduate:

  • All applicants should be enrolled in or have completed a US bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants are expected to have a degree in a related field of study with an average percentile of more than 75%.

  • Completion of all Standardised tests that are specified for graduate and professional Studies applicants.

  • To apply for a full-time MBA programme, students must GRE or GMAT scores, even though there is no minimum score requirement for either of the exams.

English language proficiency requirements:

Students applying to the University of Chicago can only submit IELTS Academic and TOEFL iBT to evaluate their English language proficiency. The minimum score is different for every course department. A band of 7.0-7.5 in IELTS is expected from students applying for graduate admissions, while for TOEFL, for students applying to Law school, a minimum score of 104 is sufficient.
