Top Computer Science Universities in USA–
A study by ICEF Monitor in 2015 reflects that nearly 6 out of 10 international students enrolled in higher studies in the USA are enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. What more? USA has the largest concentration of international students pursuing STEM subjects in the world and Computer Science is unarguably the most popular STEM subjects among the many.

Computer Science as a subject is designed to study the structure, expression and methods of computation which helps in the access and communication of information in this increasingly digitised world. USA, which is known for its massive investments in research, is one of the few countries which has delved deep into this subject through its research intensive studies- a reason why the country is home to some of the best universities in computer science.   Seven out of the 10 best universities in computer science in the world are in USA. Professional environment and practical exposures during the course are the key reasons why many students are interested studying computer science in USA.

Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyMassachusetts Institute of Technology-

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a private institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. MIT has secured number one position in world ranking several times. MIT is the most favorite destination among students across the world to study STEM subjects. Computer science is the largest program at MIT. MIT's computer science department has nearly 130 faculties who prepare around 300 graduate and undergraduate students in the subject every year.

MIT also offers students academic training after one full year degree for professional experience. There are approximately 436 undergraduate and 2784 graduate students enrolled in MIT. Starting average salaries for computer science students with bachelor’s degrees is above $90,000.

Admission Procedure at MIT- MIT accepts early action and regular action for admissions. Early action deadline is November and for Regular action, students may apply till January. Along with personal essay, interviews are also held for all students who wish to study at MIT.

Stanford UniversityStanford University-

Stanford University is a private research university in Stanford, California, USA. It is one of top Computer Science universities in USA which has secured a position among the top 5 universities in the world for computer science several times. Stanford’s Computer Science department was founded in 1965. Stanford faculty and alumni have founded many companies such as Google, Nike, Instagram and Yahoo etc.

The university is also affiliated with 59 Nobel laureates. Stanford requires computer science students to appear for a special program CS106 besides the regular programme. The computer Science programme at Stanford has a minimum of 14 units.  Besides, it also has a special programme called CURIS which provides research opportunity to interested students.

Admission Procedure at Stanford - Stanford accepts early action and regular decision admissions. Early action admission deadline for fall is in November.

Carnegie Mellon UniversityCarnegie Mellon University (CMU)-

School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Carnegie Mellon University is one of the most technically developed universities across the world in computer science with around 284 faculty members with 622 undergraduate and graduate students. In 2014-2015, Times Higher Education ranked CMU at 17 among the top U.S. universities. Carnegie Mellon has seven colleges and independent schools according to specialisation field. Apart from Pennsylvania, CMU also has campuses in California and Qatar and it’s expanding to Europe and Asian countries.

Harvard UniversityHarvard University-

Harvard University is one of the oldest universities for higher education in USA. It is situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Harvard computer science department has 134 participating faculty members with 832 undergraduate and 439 graduate students. Harvard scholarships help a large number of international students to study. As per a report, close to 60% international students receive Harvard scholarship. As per US News, Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences ranked number 4 among the top schools of computer science in USA.

University of California, BerkeleyUniversity of California, Berkeley (UCB)

University of California, Berkeley, is one of top Computer Science universities in USA. In fact, Berkeley has secured a position in the top 10 computer science universities in the world consistently. Berkeley has around 170 academic departments and 7 Nobel Prizes held by faculty. Berkeley has a total 27,126 undergraduate and 10,455 graduate students for fall semester. Department of Computer Science has 1251 undergraduate and 218 graduate students with overall 130 faculty members. Starting average salary of computer science student with bachelor’s degrees is above $104,570 in USA.

Admission Procedure at University of California, Berkeley- Applications for admission in University of California, Berkeley, are available in the month of October. It does not offer any early action or early decisions. Candidates need to submit applications between November 1 to November 30.

Princeton UniversityPrinceton University-

Princeton is also the fourth oldest university in the USA. As a research university, Princeton seeks new invention and transmission of knowledge consistently. A.B. and B.S.E. are the UG programmes offered at Princeton University for computer science. Princeton University gives opportunity to students to design their own projects as an independent work in order to provide them an in-depth practical knowledge about computer theories and principles. According to US News, Princeton University’s Computer Science department is ranked number 8 among top universities.

Admission Procedure at Princeton University- Princeton University accepts Single-Choice early action or Regular decision. Candidates applying for Single-Choice early action can apply till November, 1. For regular decision applications deadline is January, 1.

University of California, Los AngelesUniversity of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is a public research university located in Los Angeles, California, USA. UCLA has secured 16th rank among the top universities in the world in THE ranking and its Computer Science department is ranked number 15 in U.S. News ranking. UCLA’s Computer Science department is known for theoretical classes and heavy burden of study during the course but graduation average salary will be approximately $100,000 and more. UCLA is also helping a large number of international students financially. As per reports, close to 52% of UCLA undergraduate receive need based financial help.

Admission Procedure at UCLA- UCLA does not offer an early decision option. For Regular sessions, applicants can apply for fall semester now. The applications will be accepted in between November 1-November 30.

University of WashingtonUniversity of Washington-

University of Washington is a public flagship research university in Seattle, Washington, USA. The university offers around 1800 undergraduate programmes every quarter, and educates approximately 54,000 undergraduate students every year making it one of the top Computer Science universities in the USA. University of Washington has approximately 50 Faculty with 375 graduate students in Department of Computer Science which awards approximately 25 Ph.D degrees every year. For UG program applicant, UW offers two bachelor degrees through College of Arts & Sciences and college of Engineering.

Admission Procedure at University of Washington- Applications of International students are only accepted for autumn and summer semester. Application deadline is December, 1.

University of Texas at AustinUniversity of Texas at Austin-

University of Texas at Austin is a prominent public research university. It was ranked number 46 in the world’s top universities in THE ranking and number 9 in top USA computer science schools in U.S. News ranking. It is a flagship institution of the University of Texas System. As per fall 2014 admission’s report, University of Texas at Austin has around 39,523 undergraduate and 11,790 graduate students with 3071 faculty. Its Department of Computer Science has approximately 45 faculties.  Apart from that, it also offers flexible special programmes according to students’ interest and performance.

 Admission Procedure at University of Texas at Austin- University of Texas at Austin offers rolling admissions. There is no deadline. However, applicants are strongly recommended to submit the application before October 15.

California Institute of TechnologyCalifornia Institute of Technology (Caltech) –

California Institute of Technology is located in Pasadena, California, USA. Caltech is a research and education institute and among the top Computer Science universities in the USA. Caltech has approximately 300 professional faculties with 977 undergraduate and 1204 graduate students. Student to faculty ratio at Caltech is 3 to 1. Approximately, 51% students receive need based financial assistance at Caltech. Department of Computer Science at Caltech has around 20 core faculty members.

Admission Procedure at California Institute of Technology- California Institute of Technology accepts early action, early decision and regular decision admissions. Deadline for admission is November 1 for early action and Mid-December for early decision. However, regular decision admission deadline is January 3.
