As far as the IELTS writing examination is concerned, there are two writing tasks. In the first task, the candidate is to describe a given chart, graph or picture. IELTS Writing Practice Test 3

IELTS test simulation is a practice in which the real examination atmosphere of the IELTS examination is mirrored by following the exact test pattern so that the candidate receives adequate practice before the actual test. IELTS Writing Task 1

IELTS Writing Task 1 Overview

The given graph shows the estimated comparison of the evaluation of the maximum number of elephants throughout the years 1997 and 2004.

We can observe from the graph that there is a very significant decline in the number of elephants in most countries, causing an alarming threat to the Asian elephant population. The figures for Thailand and Malaysia showed the greatest decline among the countries. The value seems to be almost half of what it was in 1997, when compared to 2004 in both countries. Malaysia also exhibited a figure that was as low as 1000. We can also see that India continued to be the country with the greatest number of Asian elephants, but again, the numbers showed a significant fall in 2004 when they fell to 7500.

Another interesting trend that could be observed in the graph was that in countries such as Vietnam and Laos, the population of Asian elephants was seen to remain stable, while most of the other countries exhibited a steady decline. Conversely, in Cambodia, the trends were observed to be positive. The population of Asian elephants rose by almost 25% in Cambodia in 2004 compared to 1997. This can also be seen in the case of China, where the numbers have increased.

The bar graph data interpretation questions are widely asked in the IELTS Writing section assessments. The environment is currently being negatively impacted by technological advancements. While some think that living simpler lives is the only way to solve these environmental issues, I believe that technological advancements may help in their solution.

On the one hand, people think that individuals should lead simpler lives and use less technology. The first recommendation is that instead of using cars, individuals should walk or ride bicycles. This is because there are currently more automobiles being produced and driven, which results in high exhaust fume levels and air pollution being a major problem. To limit the exploitation of natural resources like nuclear power and fossil fuels, people should also make an effort to use less electricity. The yearly Earth Hour event, in which everyone is asked to turn off their lights for sixty minutes, serves as an illustration of this concept.

On the other hand, I think that technological advancements can make a significant difference in environmental preservation. First off, such advancements have made it possible for individuals to find methods of recycling items like glass and paper, which lessens the issue of disposing of waste. Second, technology can contribute to the use of renewable resources in the production of power. For example, numerous nations across the globe have constructed solar-powered power plants. Because of this, producing electricity does not require using non-renewable resources, nor does it cause grave environmental harm.

In conclusion, while some believe that living a simpler life can help prevent environmental difficulties, I believe that technical advancements can help address these challenges.

Note

The above question is taken from debate-based essays. In such questions, both sides of the given topic must be discussed with strong viewpoints. Debate essays are also frequently asked in the IELTS writing section examinations and thus require extensive IELTS writing preparation.

A Quick Brief of the IELTS Writing Section:

The writing section of the IELTS examination is as important as the other sections. The candidates often seem to face issues with this section due to their lack of preparation and the presence of passages with varying difficulty levels. Now, let us discuss the section in more depth.

Task 1

1. Focus on Idea Planning Before You Write

Many writers move ahead quickly to writing without planning carefully. In fact, when you spend 3–5 minutes organising your letter or essay, you stay focused, avoid repeating yourself and keep everything in a logical sequence.

• List your main points along with supporting examples as soon as you can.
