Towson University is a public university in Maryland with a long history dating back to 1866. The university was established as Maryland State Normal School and was later named Towson State University in 1976. Towson was later renamed Towson University on July 1, 1997. It is part of the University System of Maryland and is considered the largest public university in the state.
