About Florida State University

Florida State University is the oldest public higher education university, established in 1854 as a Florida institute for boys. Later, the institute gained its presence as the university for all student groups in 1947 and was named Florida State University (FSU). It is located in Tallahassee, Florida, in the United States.

Florida State University's acceptance rate is approximately 25%, which means the university is highly selective; only 25 applications are accepted out of 100. The minimum GPA requirement for selection is a 3.0 weighted academic. Students with GPAs lower than 3.0 have lower chances of selection. The official SAT and ACT scores are required for admission. For some of the graduate programmes, the university is waiving the GRE and GMAT requirements. The university is accepting applications with these scores, but it is not compulsory for the graduate programmes.

For all non-native English speakers, the university requires English proficiency test scores. The tests are TOEFL, IELTS (International English Language Testing System), Pearson Test of English, MLA (Michigan Language Assessment), Duolingo and many more.

Florida State University Admission and Application

For admission to Florida State University, the candidate can apply through the official website or the common application portal.

The university has different entry requirements according to the level of programme the candidate is applying for; if applying for undergraduate courses, the university requires a minimum GPA of 3. The ACT or SAT scores are compulsory. For the postgraduate courses, GRE and GMAT scores are required. The scores may vary accordingly.

  • Check the requirements and again select the Apply Now option

  • Create an account, and credentials will be sent to the registered email.

  • Log in with the credentials and fill out the application form.

  • Submit the application.

  • After the application is submitted, the acknowledgement is sent to the student’s registered email within 2 to 3 working days, along with instructions on depositing the other required documents and fees.

  • Check the application status and provide the final documents.

Application fee

An application fee of INR 2.5K (USD 30) is required for most of the programmes at Florida State University. Once the application is accepted, the candidate needs to deposit a non-refundable amount of INR 16.7 K (USD 200) to secure a place at the university. 

The deposit will confirm the applicant's enrolment and should be submitted by May 1, 2024; otherwise, the admission status will be considered cancelled. The fees should be deposited through Application Status Check once the candidate has applied.

The university provides application fee waivers to students who are qualified for ACT, CollegeBoard, or NACAC application fee waivers or meet the other standards of economic need

The Rolling Decision application and material deadline is March 1, 2024, and the decision will be released on a rolling basis in early April.

Florida State University Scholarship

All the first-year applicants admitted to Florida State University are automatically eligible for merit-based scholarships. No other applications are required for the scholarships; the students are offered the awards after reviewing the application form for admission.

Here are some of the scholarships awarded by Florida State University.

  • Eric Reading Scholarship: Each year, an INR 3.4 L (USD 4000) scholarship is offered to a student within the programme who has demonstrated academic excellence and ability.

  • Richard B. Gray Fellowship: Each year, two places will be offered to students entering the programme. The student needs to prove their academic excellence, professional ability, and ambition for international affairs.

  • International Undergraduate Tuition Waivers:  Florida State University provides funds to international undergraduate students with F-1 status at the university’s main campus who have excellent academic performance. Students are awarded between 1 and 12 credit hours of tuition waivers based on their Florida State University GPA.

Students can also apply for outside scholarships. The other funding scholarships are as follows.

  • Southern Scholarship Foundation To qualify for the Southern Scholarship House, applicants need to demonstrate financial need, maintain a GPA, have the motivation to live in a cooperative environment and be accepted to Florida State University. Students pay approximately INR 7.9 K (USD 950) per semester to cover food and utilities for the house.

Florida State University Eligibility

The university required official English Language Proficiency scores for all non-native English-speaking candidates, including tests like TOEFL, IELTS (academic), PTE, DET, Michigan Language Assessment (MLA), and even the university exam FSU CIES. 

The results are accepted as official results if sent directly through the testing agency. The minimum scores required for the English language test for undergraduate admission to the university are provided below.

The ACT and SAT scores are necessary for the students to get admission to Florida State University. The ACT scores should be no less than 19, and the minimum score requirement for the SAT is 990.

Library

University of Florida has six libraries along with research centres and museums at     Tallahassee campus. FSU Panama City has one library. The six libraries at Tallahassee are Robert Manning Strozier Library, Paul Dirac Science Library, FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Library, Claude Pepper Library, Allen Music Library, and Charlotte Edwards Maguire Medical Library. Cook Library & Learning Center is at FSU Panama City. Together, all library facilities hold over 1.6 million Ebooks, 2.4 million print volumes, 652 Databases, and 371,783 e-journals. Group study rooms, individual study rooms, audio rooms, Lactation Room, Cubicles and media suite are available at all libraries. Laptop, Tablets, calculators, etc are available for check out.

Swimming Pool

There is one swimming pool and Spa, Leach Pool and Spa, in University of Florida. It is a  25-yard indoor swimming facility with 16 lanes. All the lanes are available for lap swimming to the patrons. The pool has two 1-metre and two 3-metre diving boards at the deep end along with two Whirlpool Spas heated to 104 degree Fahrenheit. Eating, drinking, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not allowed in the pool or pool area. Patrons should carry only bottled water.

Sports

Florida state university mascot is Osceola and Renegade for athletic teams and have the nickname of Seminoles. Students can join in around 36 sport and recreation-oriented student organisations whether they want to compete in NCAA I championships or simply want to socialise, and stay active. There are two major stadiums, Doak Campbell Stadium and Dick Howser Stadium, for football and baseball and an arena Donald L. Tucker Center for men’s and women’s basketball. University of Florida also has a Soccer Complex, and a tennis centre.

The FSU campus is served by Seminole Express Bus Service on eight routes to, around, and from the campus to the surrounding Tallahassee areas for students, staff, visitors and faculty. With a valid FSU ID card, all students, faculty and staff can ride any StarMetro bus throughout the Tallahassee city, free of charge. Other Florida State University campus services include Spirit Shuttle during football games, Night Nole for night rides, Nole Cab, and S.A.F.E. Connection. Students are encouraged to use bicycles for sustainable transportation and reduce carbon footprint, share car rides, and public transportation with passes.
