About University of Bonn

The University of Bonn was established in the year 1818 as a government institute and has a 200-year history of combining excellent research in a range of disciplines with research-led teaching. It is situated in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The University of Bonn is one of only 11 German Universities of Excellence since 2019. It is one of the top-tier universities and the only German university with six Clusters of Excellence. However, all the students are required to pay a semester-wise fee which is popularly known as social contribution per semester. Application deadline December,2024

The University of Bonn's acceptance rate is around 36% which is very low. International students need to stand out from all the other applicants to be selected as the competition is fierce for them. Out of every 100 applications, only one-third of them are getting accepted. Therefore, a careful filling up of application forms is recommended for all applicants.

How to apply at the University of Bonn?

The applicants can apply to the university by filling out an application form.

For India-specific students, an APS certificate is required for studying in Germany. A visa application is only possible with the APS certificate. One can follow the given steps to pursue a course at this university:

  • Register at “www.aps-india.de”

  • Complete the application with the necessary details and print it out

  • Pay the APS verification fee of Rs 18,000 to the APS bank account or make an online payment through the CCAvenue portal during registration.

  • Submit the required documents, including the printed and signed application form via courier to APS India. 

  • Document verification will be conducted by APS India. 

  • On completion of the document verification, the candidate's online profile will be updated with a verification result. 

  • Successful candidates receive a digital APS certificate via email.

German proficiency requirements

Some of the courses available at the University of Bonn are available in German language instructions. Hence, to study at the University of Bonn, applicants who do not hold a university entrance qualification from a German or German-language school must prove sufficient knowledge of German.

This can be proved via a German Language Proficiency Test for Admission to Higher Education (DSH).

A DSH 2 certificate is sufficient to start in all degree programmes that are taught in German with the exception of “Master of Education” degree programmes requiring DSH 3.
