We have already mentioned that the fail percentage of candidates who appeared for te FMGE exam is quite low. Often, candidates prepare well and still fail to qualify for the FMGE exam in one or multiple attempts. Given that the FMGE is a mandatory exam for Indian students who have graduated from MBBS abroad, many students look for best career options for the failed students to make informed decisions. Let us now discuss the crucial reasons why many medical graduates fail to pass the FMGE exam in 2025:
FMGE is a licensure exam in India to practice medicine, which is quite tough for medical aspirants, given a vast syllabus and a clinically focused pattern. The exam is designed not only to test the theoretical concepts but also practical and day-to-day medical problem-solving skills. Hence, thorough preparation is required, as the difficulty level of the FMGE exam is quite high, posing a significant challenge for students to pass the exam.
Often, Indian students go for MBBS abroad in countries such as Russia, US, UK, China, and Bangladesh in 2025. However, sometimes the medical standards are not met as per India's clinical training requirements. This poses a high threat, and many students fail the FMGE exam after MBBS abroad. Also, sometimes, the foreign universities have different teaching methods and exam formats that create an unfamiliarity gap in FMGE preparation for students.
With time, India has seen a rise in MBBS aspirants, where a significant number of students (Above 20 lakh approx) compete for just 1.08 seats. Also, the ones who don’t get enrolled in government medical colleges choose to study MBBS abroad as private medical colleges pose an exorbitantly high tuition fee structure. With many students appearing for FMGE after completing their MBBS from India and abroad, the competition increases.
Students often lack focused FMGE preparation. This is one of the major causes why many Indian students fail to pass the FMGE exam in 2025. Also, after the completion of MBBS course abroad, they have a very limited time to prepare for the licensure exam. This causes them to fail as they struggle to meet the FMGE standards.

For FMGE, passport is the primary form of identification, you must apply using your name exactly as it appears on your passport. If your passport does not have your surname on it and your other documents do, You might face issues during verification.
So, to avoid such problems, you can either prepare a notarized "one and the same person" affidavit linking both names, from your passport and your other documents, or update your passport with your surname to avoid any problems during your FMGE exams.
I hope this will help you.
