The University, originally known as the Pittsburgh Academy, was founded on January 28, 1787. It was renamed the Western University of Pennsylvania in 1819 and then re-established as the University of Pittsburgh in 1908. 

The University of Pittsburgh is a public state-related research university located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. The total enrollment in Pittsburgh is 28,234 including graduate and professional school, and full-time undergraduate students are 18,274.

The acceptance rate of the University of Pittsburgh is approximately 60%; this suggests that applicants should maintain the essential scores in GPA and SAT or ACT. Students with good academic performance can be admitted to the admissions process because of the moderate acceptance rate.
