About BA Data Science

Rutgers University, New Brunswick offers a four-year full-time BA Data Science programme. The programme is offered by the School of Arts and Sciences. BA Data Science programme is offered jointly by the Department of Statistics (Stat) and Departments of Computer Science (CS) in partnership with the School of Communication and Information (SC&I), School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) and School of Engineering (SOE). BA Data Science programme offers strong foundation in statistical inference, information and data management principles, data literacy and data management. BA Data Science programme equips students with skills and knowledge in technical, communication, scientific, critical thinking and ethical modes of inquiry.

BA Data Science programme has two tracks- Statistics and Human Centered. Both the tracks have unique requirements. The Statistics track includes computer science, advanced statistic courses and calculus. The Human Centered track includes courses in computing, courses related to data scientist, regression methods and IT and informatics. BA Data Science programme offers career opportunities in the field of data science, focusing on statistical analysis, information and data management principles and data management. 

The programme- BA Data Science involves foundational courses, BA degree options and SAS CORE requirements.

Admission and Application

For Rutgers University, New Brunswick admission to the BA Data Science programme, students have to first meet the eligibility criteria. After that, students have to submit an online application form. After the submission of the form, applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their academic performances, which include strength of academic programme, grades and grade trends, weighted grade-point average(s), cumulative rank, when available, SAT/ACT scores (optional), English proficiency examination results, when required. 

For the selection of the students, Rutgers University, New Brunswick also takes into account other qualitative factors like personal essay, participation in programs designed for college preparation, extracurricular activities, including community, volunteer, and/or U.S. military service, honors, awards, and other achievements, special talents, employment history, family obligations and socioeconomic background.

  • The Rutgers Application will direct to the page-rutgers.my.site.com/ApplicantPortal/AppPortalCustom.

  • New students have to create a CommunityID and log in.

  • The Common Application will direct to the page- /apply.commonapp.org/login?ma=1304.

  • Students have to create an account and log in with the username and password.

  • After logging in, students have to fill the application form.

  • Next, students have to upload all the necessary documents.

  • Pay the application form fee of $70.

  • Finally, submit the application form.

  • Students can check the status of their application by logging into the portal.

Eligibility

Students have to meet certain eligibility criteria as part of the BA Data Science programme admission process at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. For BA Data Science programme admission, students should have high school GPA in the range 3.7-4.2, H.S. percentile rank in the range of 70-95 and cumulative college GPA in the range of 3.3-3.8. Rutgers University, New Brunswick also accepts SAT or ACT scores. However, SAT/ACT scores are optional. International students have to show additional requirements in English language like TOEFL, IELTS, MET, SAT, ACT, PTE, Duolingo English Test and Cambridge Assessment Test.
