About University of Portsmouth

The University of Portsmouth is a public university located in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. The University was founded in 1870 and was granted the university status in 1992. Portsmouth University offers 200+ undergraduate and 150+ postgraduate taught courses across the various academic disciplines, ranging from health to engineering. 

The University of Portsmouth enjoys official recognition from the Privy Council. The University of Portsmouth's acceptance rate is approximately 69% which shows that the university is moderately selective and competitive in giving admissions. International students can apply either through UCAS or direct application for undergraduate admissions whereas graduate applicants must apply through the university’s online application portal. University of Portsmouth Eligibility

The University of Portsmouth’s eligibility criteria may differ for different courses, hence applicants are required to explore the degree programmes to check their eligibility for the selected degree course/s. Undergraduate Programmes

  • A minimum aggregate of 75% in State Board Examinations and 70% in CBSE or ISC examinations are required in Senior Secondary School (class 12th).

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) points between 24 and 31 are required by most courses (applicants with IB diploma).

  • Must meet the English language proficiency requirements.

  • Any other course-specific requirements should be taken care of.

Postgraduate Programmes

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university with a second-class degree (minimum aggregate range 50% to 60%).

  • GMAT scores can be required for MBA Programmes.

  • English proficiency and any other course-specific requirements should be met.

  • For Ph.D. programmes, a good Master’s degree and a Research Proposal are required.

Portsmouth University requires all international applicants to meet its English proficiency level as a prerequisite for admission to the institution. University of Portsmouth has one library comprising three floors with areas for group work or quiet study, and a cafe. Formerly known as the Frewen Library, it houses over 380,000 books, 906,000 e-books and 99,000 e-journals. Students of Portsmouth Uni can access e-resources while being on-campus. The university library is open 24/7 during term time. Students can get help and specialist advice from faculty librarians on every subject via classroom teaching, online and direct meetings. Campus swimming pool at Portsmouth University is located in Ravelin Sports Centre. It is a  25 m, 8-lane swimming pool with a variable floor depth. Students can take part in Lane swimming, casual swimming, swimming lessons and much more. The swimming facility at University of Portsmouth offers parent and toddler (under 5) sessions, family swimming sessions, university water polo club sessions, student only sessions, aqua classes, swimming to the elders (Over 50), and student-only sessions. Students and staff seeking to avail the swimming pool facilities must take membership and book sessions through UOP Sport mobile app. Instant, pay as you go options are also available. 

Gym

A gym facility is available at University of Portsmouth in Ravelin Sports Centre. It has free weights and performance, cardio equipment along with personal training, group training sessions, one-to-one consultation, etc. Free weights offer dumbbells up to 60kg, 8 olympic power racks complete with all the accessories, and many types of bench loads. Cardio equipment includes stair climbers, treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and rowers. The gym facility also offers jump ropes, kettlebells, medicine balls, slam balls, and speed ladders etc.
