The challenges or issues include increase in population growth at a very significant rate leading to lack of resources for the entire population, increase in population of old people dramatically, impact on the job market in a bad way, climate change effects, contamination along with extremely low as well as high fertility rates, population migration,slow economic growth and many more.
M.Sc Demography and Health from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is a course which includes study of those demographics; theories and concepts related to demographics to understand the challenges related to it and its downstream effects on health and health policies and study of tools and techniques to analyse demography and population quantitatively and qualitatively. The Medical Research Council (MRC), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Population Investigation Committee (PIC) recognise the course M.Sc Demography and Health and offer a number of scholarships every year.
By the end of this course, students will be able to deeply understand and analyse the population and health issues and address them effectively.

Intensive learning
Intensive learning includes one year full-time, part-time and split study over two years. However, students carrying student visas are not allowed to take a part-time method of study.
Intercalating learning
Third year medical students from any recognised university in the world are allowed to intercalate in this programme after their third year of study.

The curriculum consists of three semesters- one from September to December, second from January to March and the third one from April to September. The first two semesters consist of ten teaching weeks and one reading week in the middle of the term while the third semester consists of five teaching weeks. There is one winter break and one spring break during the academic year. The first semester modules include Basic Epidemiology or Extended Epidemiology, Demographic Methods, Population Studies, Principles of Social Research and Statistics for Epidemiology & Population Health. The second semester modules include Research Design & Analysis, Family Planning Programmes, Population, Poverty and Environment, Evaluation of Public Health Interventions, Social Epidemiology and Population Dynamics & Projections (compulsory). The third semester modules include Analysing Survey & Population Data and HIV. A summer project report is also to be submitted till early September and the acceptable projects are: data analysis; a project proposal; an original literature or policy review.

The applicant must ensure that the application is complete and all supporting documents are there in the application. In case of incomplete application or missing documents, applicants are informed to complete it with a deadline. In case of incompletion even after the deadline, the application gets rejected. Once the application is submitted, it is reviewed by the Admissions Team of the university and then forwarded to the relevant Programme Directors or Admission Tutors.

Application can be submitted for up to two master’s programmes. It should be noted that you should list them by order of preference as the consideration will be given to your top choice first.
The complete submitted application is then forwarded to the Programme Director of the masters of your choice for decision.
To track the status of application, you will have to set an IT account through the unique student number provided to you.
If your application is successful, an offer letter will be sent to you via email.
Log in to the application portal to accept the offer letter as soon as possible because you will have only 28 days to accept the same. During this period, you have to submit the tuition fee.

As per the minimum requirements of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, to get admission to the course M.Sc Demography and Health, the applicants must have a second class honours degree in a relevant discipline or medicine. If the applicant does not meet the degree criteria, then the equivalent professional qualification or training in relevant domain can be considered for the admission. These requirements are for the students who have previously studied in the UK. For the students who have not studied previously in the UK, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have different minimum requirements for different countries.
The minimum eligibility requirements for admission to the course M.Sc Demography and Health for the applicants who have previously studied in the UK are as follows:
The applicant must hold a first degree at Second class Honours(2:2) standard in a relevant discipline or degree in medicine recognised by the UK General Medical Council (GMC) for the purposes of practising medicine in the UK, or another degree of equivalent standard awarded by an overseas institution recognised by UK ENIC or the GMC.
OR
Must be professionally qualified. The professional qualification must be equivalent to a Second Class Honours Degree or above.
OR
The applicant must be professionally experienced or trained in relevant domain. The experience must be judged by LSHTM as equivalent to Second Class Honours degree or above.
The minimum requirements for the applicants who have not studied previously in the UK and are from India are as follows:
There are two kinds of entries for the course:
2.1 Entry: Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline with an aggregate of 65%.
2.2 Entry: Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline with an aggregate of 60%.
NOTE: Relevant disciplines for M.Sc Demography and Health include social sciences (e.g. anthropology, demography, development, economics, geography, international relations, politics, sociology) and sciences (e.g. mathematics, statistics, biology, medicine, nursing, midwifery).
For intercalating students: The applicants must have a BSc degree or completed the first three years of your medical degree.
