About BA Hons International Hospitality Management and Tourism

BA Hons International Hospitality Management and Tourism programme is a comprehensive course designed by the Department of Tourism, Hospitality, Festival & Events Management of Edinburgh Napier University. The course is accredited by the Institute of Hospitality and is planned for students aiming to make a career in the field of hospitality and tourism. The main objectives of the course are to develop skills in designing, delivering and managing food, beverages and accommodation to top industry standards; to make students wholly aware of the basic principles of hospitality and tourism and to develop specialist skills in destination management, international business and visitor attractions. The students also develop transferable skills like research, academic writing, communication and interpersonal relations, presentation, time management and good management skills.

The curriculum of BA Hons International Hospitality Management and Tourism programme includes the principles of tourism management and hospitality management specialising in tourism within a global business environment. The curriculum is taught using teaching methods like lectures, tutorials and independent study by highly experienced teaching staff and strong industry professionals throughout the programme. An optional 24 week work placement is also offered across all the three major subjects- hospitality, tourism and festival & events- to students to gain real world hands-on experience. ‘Study abroad’ option is also offered through the University’s international exchange links between Europe and USA. However, options like work placement and study abroad are subject to UK and Scottish Government health and travel advice.

Eligibility

In order to take admission to the BA Hons International Hospitality Management and Tourism programme of Edinburgh Napier University, students have to meet the eligibility criteria. Admission to the course is not guaranteed only if the minimum qualifications are met. The other things are also taken into account for the final admission. For BA Hons International Hospitality Management and Tourism programme admission, there are different entry requirements for different countries. 

The minimum requirements for International students residing or studying in the UK are as follows:

  • The applicants must hold a bachelor(honours) degree from a recognised university in UK with 2:2 or above. 

The minimum requirements for Indian applicants are mentioned below:

  • The applicants must hold a Higher Secondary Certificate with 60% or above in 12th standard examination.

  • The applicants may also be admitted directly to the second year of the course provided they have scored 75% or above in 12th standard of CBSE, ISC and State Education boards across India.

  • Applicants who have completed All India or State Board SSC (X) with a minimum average of 50% (X and/or XI) must complete a foundation or pathway programme.

  • Applicants who have secured 70% or above in English in 12th standard HSC exam may be considered for undergraduate study without any English proficiency test on a case-by-case basis.

  • The applicants securing less than 70% in English in 12th standard HSC exam need to take one of the following English proficiency tests with below mentioned minimum scores:
