Some of the scholarships offered by Victoria University of Wellington to international students are:

Tongarewa Scholarship

The Tongarewa Scholarship is offered to celebrate the University's commitment to its international student community This is a partial fee-based scholarship that will go towards tuition fees for one year of study. Applicants can be either entering their first year of an undergraduate degree or entering a postgraduate degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington. Scholarships are awarded competitively based on academic excellence. An amount of 5,000 USD or 10,000 USD will be awarded depending upon the student’s academic excellence. 

Study Abroad Scholarship

The scholarship is available to students from any country who are interested in experiencing New Zealand culture through the Study Abroad and Exchange program at Victoria University of Wellington. Successful candidates are expected to participate in marketing activities to promote study abroad and exchange opportunities to Victoria University of Wellington students. Applicants' experiences, attributes, backgrounds, and academic achievements will be taken into consideration. The scholarship awards 1000 NZD to international students who enrol in the Study Abroad and Exchange program at Victoria University of Wellington for at least one trimester.

Wellington International Excellence Scholarship

The objective of the Wellington International Excellence Scholarship is to attract high-achieving school leavers international students who want to study in New Zealand at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and to support them in their studies. An amount of 20,000 USD will be awarded over three years of study. Scholarships will be competitive and awarded based on academic merit.

Academic Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes:

  • An equivalent overseas qualification

  • The university’s English Proficiency requirements must be met

  • 11th and 12th standard education should be relevant to undergraduate programme taken

Academic Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes:

  • A Bachelor's degree

English language requirements 

Students with a minimum mark of 65% in English and who studied in CBSE, CISCE, or Higher Secondary School Certificate issued by Maharashtra, Karnataka or West Bengal State Board,  are exempted from meeting the university's English language requirements. Those with Higher Secondary School Certificates issued by all other India State Boards would require a minimum of 70% in English to fulfil the English-language requirement.

Students who previously studied in a native English-speaking country, including passing literacy at a New Zealand secondary school are also exempted from meeting the English requirements mentioned below:
