    About University of Guelph

    The University of Guelph (U of G) was founded in 1964 in Ontario, Canada. The university can trace its history back to 1874 when the Ontario Agricultural College opened. The college was combined with Ontario Veterinary College and the Macdonald Institute to create The University of Guelph.

    More than 1,200 international students come from all over the world to study at the University of Guelph Canada. The University is ranked =486 in the QS World University Rankings 2024. Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, has ranked the University of Guelph at 401–500.

    The University offers 81 Undergraduate programs and 52 Postgraduate programs. The Guelph uni consists of seven faculties (including the original veterinary and agricultural colleges) offering a total of 90 majors in areas like Business and Economics, Physical and Engineering Science, Social and Applied Human Sciences, and Arts and Humanities among others. Future students can apply online directly on the University’s official website, where they may fill out the application form at least nine months before the intake.

    Applying to the Undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Guelph uni are all done through the same application portal. All students are supposed to pay the Ontario University of Guelph application fee of $120 ($150 for MBA and MA Leadership programs)

    How to apply at the University of Guelph?

    To apply at the University of Guelph Ontario, the students must follow the following steps:

    1. Applicants can start by researching Undergraduate and Graduate programs offered at the University of Guelph and review admission requirements for the programmes of interest.

    2. Assess their academic background in relation to admission and English language requirements for their chosen program.

    3. Apply through the online form at the official website: www.uoguelph.ca. Students must fill out the application form a minimum of nine months in advance of the program's start date.

    4. Submit all documents required to complete the application, and pay the application fees of $120 ($150 for MBA and MA Leadership programs).

    5. Within 5 business days of submitting the online application, applicants will be sent login information to access their personalized application document checklist so that they can upload the required documents.

    6. Applicants are supposed to submit their English language requirements test results like IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, CAEL, etc.

    7. After doing that, they can monitor their application status on WebAdvisor. 

    8. If applicants receive an offer of admission, further information will be included in the offer letter outlining the final documents required and the next steps. 

    University of Guelph Scholarship

    In the 2022-23, 7,637 Guelph students received scholarships with a total worth of $27.1 million CAD. Guelph University offers all international students financial aid regardless of their financial status so that all deserving students can gain quality education. Along with scholarships, the Guelph uni helps the students out with the estimated expenses and opportunities to make money while studying abroad. Some scholarships are for future students, while some are for in-course students. The range of awards offered is from $1,000 CAD to $42,500 CAD. The Dr. Franco J. Vaccarino President’s Scholarship is the scholarship that provides an award of $42,500 CAD to students who are not only exceptional in academics, but also significantly contribute to their school and their community.

    University of Guelph Eligibility

    Undergraduate Degree:

    • Completion of a Class 12 State Board Certificate in the required academic stream with strong First Division standing, i.e., an average of at least 80%.

    Graduate Degree:

    • For the admissions of international students to a master’s program, the minimum requirement is successful completion of an undergraduate degree/baccalaureate, in an honours program or the equivalent, from a recognized university.

    • Students need to have a minimum B- average (last two years of full-time equivalent study)

    Doctoral Degree:

    • Similarly, the minimum requirement for admission to a doctoral program is the successful completion of a graduate/master’s degree from a recognized university.

    • Students require a minimum of a B average in their Master’s program (the department may require higher standing)

    University of Guelph Campus Life

    The students of the University of Guelph Canada conduct events, workshops, volunteer experiences, community-engaged programs and employment opportunities for students to have new experiences and meet new people. 

    • Gryphon traditions: The Gryphons have traditions like painting the cannon and dressing the begging bear that students can take part in, along with countless games and meet and greets that are organised by students of various associations. 

    • Societies: Students can find like-minded individuals by joining societies for Black and Racialized Students; Faith and Spirituality, First Nations; Inuit and Métis Students; LGBTQ2IA+; Political Science Society etc.

    • Events: Some of the current events that are being held in September 2023 are: Crock-a-doodle pottery painting PICK UP, Educational farm tour, Nature walks in Arboretum, “Every Child Matters Patch Fundraiser,” Clubs and societies general meetings and other events conducted by the clubs and organisations.

    Library

    The six-storey McLaughlin Library at the main campus provides students with more than 400 computers and access to books, periodicals, films, audiovisual and archival materials, government documents and maps. Guelph students, faculty and staff, all have access to electronic resources from any location at any time.

    Students can take part in clubs and organisations like the Al-Zahra Students Association, Accounting Students’ Association, Curtain Call Productions, Chess Club, etc.

    All students with a membership can take advantage of sports facilities available on campus, like the Gryphon Centre Arena, Gryphon Aquatic Centre, Gryphon Soccer Complex, Softball Diamonds, Beach Volleyball Courts, Varsity Field and more. Students can take all sorts of classes, from group fitness classes to pilates and yoga classes. Some of the sports clubs students can join are Artistic Swimming, Badminton, Cheerleading, Equestrian, Softball, and even climbing.

    Swimming Pool

    The U of G houses two full-sized swimming pools located in the historic wing of the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. There are two training programs available, the “Learn to Scuba” training course and the Adult semi-private swim lessons, both of which require the students selecting it to pay the respective fees for the lessons.

    On-campus meal plans are mandatory for all students living in traditional residences, and optional for students living in East & West residences and the East Village Townhouses. Meal plans are accepted at all Hospitality Services locations which include: 

    • The Gryph N' Grille
    • Caffeine Canteen
    • Food trucks and more.

    Students can use their IDs as their meal plan cards. There are over 20 different dining facilities conveniently located on the University of Guelph campus.

    University of Guelph International Office Details

    International students looking to apply for a program at the University of Guelph Canada, can get help from the International Student Organization. The organisation intimates the students about university life and the various resources that are available to them. Most importantly, they provide translation assistance to international students so that they can adjust to life in a different country and make the most of their education. The ISO Lounge is located at UC 535 of the campus and students can drop in to ask questions and advice. Students can also email them at iso@uoguelph.ca.

    International Student Advising is another association that international students can approach for help. They are a one-on-one consultation group where students can prevail and ask any doubts they may have about housing, academic concerns, immigration (study permit, visa, post-graduate work permit) financial difficulties etc. Candidates can book an appointment with them on the university’s official website or even drop in at the University centre, where the International Student Advising is located.

    Students at the University of Guelph Canada are encouraged to live on campus so that they can learn, grow, and thrive in a new environment. The university was ranked #1 in Canada for residence living. Students choosing to stay on-campus can do so with the help of the Student housing serving. The campus has 8 halls of residence and one building of East Village Townhouses. 

    The on-campus housing has the following facilities and features that students can avail of:

    • ResNet internet service is provided in each room of the residences, although students must bring their own ethernet cord to directly connect. All student rooms in residence halls already have WiFi coverage.

    • Equipped with single beds [mattress size Standard Twin 75″×36″], desks, bookshelves, desk chairs, desk lamps, room lamps, closets, wardrobe space/drawers, mirrors, towel bars, corkboards, waste containers, curtains
