Lakehead University was founded in 1946. It first began as a public research school and was called the Lakehead Technical Institute and Lakehead College of Arts, Science, and Technology. Later, it gained university status in 1965.

Lakehead University offers 307 undergraduate programs and 18 postgraduate programs in nine faculties, including Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Health and Behavioural Sciences, Law, Natural Resources Management, Science and Environmental Studies, and Social Sciences and Humanities.

Lakehead University Scholarship

Students with exceptional academic scores and community engagement are provided with many scholarships, awards, and bursaries by the government. Lakehead University, itself, provides over $11 million every year to students. The most popular scholarships the University offers are the International Entrance Scholarships 2024-2025. Students applying for admission are automatically considered for this scholarship and no scholarship application is required. The amount of the award is determined based on the student’s high school or undergraduate academic average. So, it ranges from 40,000 for applicants who scored 90%+ and  6,000 from applicants who scored between 75%-79%.

Lakehead University Eligibility

Undergraduate students:

  • Program-specific prerequisite courses completed at the senior level (e.g. Grade 12);
  • The equivalent of a minimum 70% overall final average.

Postgraduate:

  • Degree students must have a three or four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second-class standing (B) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent unless otherwise specified in the Admission Requirements of a specific programme.
