The University of Alabama Courses

The University of Alabama Birmingham offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in the fields of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Health Professions, Nursing, and Public Health. The university also offers Pathway Programmes for both UG and Graduate studies. The University of Alabama Admission and Application

The University of Alabama's admission criteria require international applicants to meet the academic and English proficiency requirements of the chosen degree programme. The acceptance rate of the university stands at 87% (U.S. News and World Report) which shows that it is not hard to get admission to UAB. 

Before beginning with the application process for UG or Graduate studies, applicants should select their specific programme of interest and review its admissions requirements and deadlines. Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements may enrol themselves in the Pathway Programme of Alabama University. The applicants can apply online through the University’s application portal.

How to Apply: UG Admissions?

The applicants must follow the given steps to apply to the undergraduate programme of Alabama University.

  • Visit the official website of the University at uab.edu.

  • Go to the Admissions tab and click on ‘Undergraduate Admissions’.

  • Now, go to Apply and click on ‘International’ under Other Applicants.

  • Select the Freshman application (new applicants).

  • Click on the link ‘Apply to INTO UAB’ and create an account.

  • Login credentials will be sent via the registered email address of the applicant.

  • Use the credentials to log into the portal and fill out the application.

  • Upload all the required documents (scanned and PDF).

  • Pay the application fee and submit the form.

Application Fee

UG applicants (International) must pay the application fee of $40. The fee is non-refundable.

Documents required for the UG Programme

All the documents must be original and should be in English. UAB accepts both mailed and electronic transcripts. The transcripts must be sent directly to UAB from the issuing institution. The required documents are as follows.

  • Senior Secondary School (class 12th) Certificate.

  • Official Academic Transcripts of the secondary and any post-secondary education (all the institutions attended after class 12th), if any.

  • ACT / SAT scores, if required by the programme.

  • Proof of English proficiency as per the university/programme requirements.

  • Any other document required by the selected degree programme.

How to Apply for University of Alabama: Graduate Admissions?

The applicants who wish to apply for the graduate study programmes at UAB must follow the given steps.

  • Visit the official website of the University at uab.edu.

  • Go to the Admissions tab and click on ‘Graduate School’.

  • The Graduate Admissions page will open.

  • Now go to the Apply tab and click on ‘International Applicants’.

  • Click on the Apply Now button.

  • Create a guest account as a new applicant.

Application Fee

Graduate applicants (international) must pay the application fee of $60. The fee is non-refundable.

Documents required for the UG Programme

If applicants only have one set of original documents, they may submit unofficial copies for review purposes. Original documents can be submitted to the Graduate School on arrival in Birmingham post-admission. The following documents must be mailed to the Graduate School of UAB.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a university or institution recognised by the University of Alabama.

  • Official transcripts of the University.

  • GMAT or GRE Scorecard, if required by the chosen degree programme.

  • Three letters of recommendation.

  • Proof of English proficiency as per the university/programme requirements.

  • Personal Essay (topics will be provided as per the programme requirements).

The University of Alabama Scholarship

The University of Alabama offers scholarships to international students who enrol themselves in the first year as full-time, degree-seeking students in an undergraduate programme. Under the UAB International Scholarship, the incoming applicants are offered US $7,500 per year. The scholarship is offered on the basis of merit (minimum GPA of 3.0). The university also offers other scholarships as well such as regional scholarships, departmental scholarships, performance scholarships, IB Scholarships, and more.

Interested students can apply through the BSMART Scholarship Application in the Blazer Scholarship Management and Resource Tool (BSMART). Completing this application will send the information to the concerned departments on campus for scholarship consideration. Students can complete the BSMART Scholarship Application beginning August 1. Apart from UAB scholarships, international students can also apply for several other scholarships in the U.S. Some of the scholarships offered to international students by UAB are,

The University of Alabama Eligibility

The eligibility requirements for admission to the University of Alabama may vary according to the various academic programmes. The applicants can check their eligibility under their selected degree course. The minimum eligibility requirements are as follows.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.4 or higher is required for UG applicants.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in bachelor’s is required for Graduate applicants.

  • A minimum SAT score between 1200 and 1410 or an ACT score between 23 and 30 (U.S. News and World Report) if required by the selected programme.

  • A minimum GMAT or GRE score as requested by the desired department.

  • Must meet the English proficiency requirements.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

The applicants who do not have English as their native language will have to submit an English proficiency test score. Official test scores should be sent directly from the testing agency to UAB. English proficiency tests that have been taken within two years from the date of application submission will be accepted.
