Students can get along using bicycles as The League of American Bicyclists has recognized MSU as a Bicycle Friendly University for having more than 20,000 bicycle parking spaces and more than half of its roads outfitted with bike lanes.

For bus transportation, all students may ride the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) bus system for free on all on-campus routes during the autumn and spring semesters. All university apartments, residence halls, commuter lots, and main campus amenities are served by these routes. After the majority of on-campus routes have finished running at 2:30 a.m., the Night Owl service offers late-night transportation at a reduced student cost.

Students can even check out Zip cars, and there are seven Zip car parking spots available at MSU. Students who are 18 years of age and older, as well as those with an international driving license, may rent a car by the hour or day.
