Doane University, Crete was established as a private university in 1872 with the joint efforts of Thomas Doane, the chief civil engineer for the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad, and a local Congregational pastor. The university was initially started as Doane College, but later received the status of a university and the name got changed to Doane University from May 2016. The university has five different schools and colleges under its administration offering education across different areas of study namely- College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business, School of Innovative Learning, College of Education, and College of Professional Studies. Doane University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and the Nebraska Coordinating Commission of Post-Secondary Education. The university has also formed a partnership with the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement which supports interstate postsecondary distance education.
The library of Doane University, Crete has a huge collection of books, journals, and other study materials. It also has a collection of more than 150 databases having articles, eBooks, streaming media, primary sources, images, and other resources. Other services of printing, photocopying, and scanning are also available inside the libraries. The libraries are also provided with reading rooms where students are allowed to read books.
The students at Doane University are encouraged to participate in various sports and athletics to keep themselves physically fit. The Doane Athletic Department also supports various men and women sports facilities including football, squash, volleyball, basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track, wrestling, softball etc. Doane also collaborates with other sports institutions and professional teams to bring more opportunities for sports events and competitions.
Doane University USA also has a student health and wellness center where students can visit and consult the doctor free of cost. Various health services including injury and illness treatment, gynecologic care, immunizations, and other primary health services are offered.
