About MA English Literature - Victorian Literature

The MA Victorian Literature is a broad interdisciplinary field that combines literary history, culture and theory. University of Liverpool offers an ideal environment for studying the course with a diverse international student community, access to local and UK’s arts and literature institutions, and a vibrant research environment. While studying Victorian literature at the university, students have access to the largest Science Fiction archive in Europe. Through this course students will explore the Victorian supernatural, how Victorians imagined the end of the world, Victorian thinking about murder and serious crime, and other critical observations of the subject.

Structure of the full time course contains 2 semesters, a final project followed by teaching and assessment. Students have to study two compulsory subjects and optional subjects together to achieve a total of 90 credits. Teaching will be through a series of seminars and tutorials that students have to attend in-person, at the University of Liverpool campus. Assessment methods include essays, essay plans, a dissertation, research proposals, presentations, etc.

After successful completion of the course, students can pursue careers in journalism, advertising, media, and PR industries, copywriting, management in arts and culture organisations, and teaching in language departments of colleges and Universities. Alternatively, students may pursue a research career through Ph.D or choose to become writers, editors, publishers, critiques, etc.
