    About B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology

    University of Essex offers three-year full-time B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme. The course is offered by the School of Life Sciences. Through B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme, students will learn role of biodiversity and ecosystem and concepts of terrestrial, marine and freshwater systems. Students will be able to explore chemical pollution, climate change and habitat loss while learning biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Students will also get the option of training in Mediterranean, tropical marine biology in Indonesia and environmental biology and ecology on new Arctic field course. University of Essex has partnerships with The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) for training and research on aquatic ecosystem science. 

    Under B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme, students are given the opportunity to do ten-week research project under the guidance of the university leading academics. Students can go for placement with an external organisation during their third year. University of Essex students from B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme have been placed with organisations like CEFAS, IFCA, ecological consultancies and others. University of Essex also provides numerous facilities for the programme study. The facilities include- 

    • Overseas field sites in collaboration with Indonesia, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean

    • Laboratories with equipment for cell culture, gene editing and molecular biology and robotic liquid handling systems.

    • Analytical equipment like ICP-MS, GC-MS, LC-MS/MS

    • Advanced bioimaging suite

    B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme teaching process involves combination of lectures, coursework, laboratory sessions and specialist field trips. B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme assessment includes written examinations, practical work and coursework.

    Admission and Application

    After meeting the eligibility criteria, students have to apply online for the programme admission. Students have to apply on ucas.com for B.Sc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme admission. University of Essex also offers programme admission through clearing. The clearing admission is offered after the UCAS deadline has crossed. While filling the application form, students have to upload all the necessary documents. After that, students have to pay the application form fee and submit the application. 

    How to Apply

    • Students have to apply on Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

    • Students have to go to the website- ucas.com.

    • There they have to register and fill in the details.

    • Students have to give their course choices (up to 5 courses).

    • Next, they have to fill the personal statement section.

    • After that, students have to pay the application form fee of £22.50 (for a single choice) or £27 (for more than one choice).

    • Students have to submit the application form with a reference.

    • After the submission of the application form, an acknowledgement email will be sent.

    • Students have to give their acceptance to the offer (conditional/unconditional).
