About BA Hons Acting

BA Hons Acting is a training based course designed by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama located in Cardiff (Wales). This degree is accredited by the University of South Wales. The course is planned for students aiming to establish their careers as professional actors in theatre, film and TV. 

The curriculum of BA Hons Acting programme of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama includes intensive training and practice in acting through daily classes and rehearsals, weekly contextual and reflective practice sessions, projects and five full-length plays’ rehearsal and performance in a professional setting. The course also provides students with various opportunities to meet, work under and learn from renowned in-house and visiting acting professionals and musicians. The students are encouraged and provided opportunities to participate in workshops (Royal Shakespeare Company, Sherman and National Theatre Wales), festivals (Wannamaker), competitions (Carleton Hobbs and Spotlight) and awards (Olivier, Gielgud and Bates).

BA Hons Acting course helps students to strengthen their individual talents rather than moulding them into a prescribed ideal. It helps students gain various artistic skills along with acting. It also helps in building a network of contacts in the relevant industry.

 BA Hons Acting course consists of three terms each academic year. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to develop their artistic vision by reading widely, researching independently and attending a wide range of theatrical performances. Constructive feedback is also provided to students throughout the course during classes, projects and productions.

  • The applicants must fill in the name of the referee which can be their drama teacher/lecturer, head of the department or any other person whose passion or profession allows him/her to comment on the applicant’s skills and abilities in a relevant context.

  • Then the applicants must submit a personal statement along with the application after cross-checking all the details filled in.

  • The applications are then sent to the authority of the concerned department of the college by UCAS Conservatoires for review. 

  • After the evaluation of the applications, the successful applicants are called for the auditions.

  • The final decision regarding the admission is based on the audition and is communicated to the applicants via relevant channels.

Eligibility

BA Hons Acting Minimum Requirements for UK Students

  • The applicants holding A levels, BTEC or equivalent formal qualifications like WBQ, Scottish Highers, BTEC National Diploma/Certificate, International Baccalaureate, Advanced GNVQ, AVCE or Advanced Diploma (Level 3) and recognised international qualifications.

          OR

  • The applicants possessing exceptional practical ability without formal qualifications are also eligible to apply. However, the selection into the course is audition-based. 

BA Hons Acting Minimum Requirements for International Students

  • International applicants whose first language is English are eligible to apply.

  • The international applicants whose first language is not English are eligible to apply only if they get successful in demonstrating their English speaking proficiency level as equivalent to professional actor training while giving an audition. 

  • In both of these cases, the selection is based on the audition.
