The University was established in 2002, and its academic departments are divided into six university schools. London Metropolitan university has two fully opened libraries that serve the University's five academic schools including School of Computing and Digital Media and School of Social Professions. Together they hold over 2.36,138 print books, 196,286 e-books and 82,018 e-journals along with an online catalogue facility to search and browse many print and electronic material. Students can also access special collections such as The Archive of the Irish in Britain, The Atkins / Atcraft Archive, Artists' Books, The Frederick Parker Collection and other special collections.

Laboratories

London Metropolitan Universities has advanced laboratory facilities in the whole of London. With an investment of £30 million, the university has built a number of laboratories including the superlab, phlebotomy and virology labs, food technology labs, nutritional psychology labs, a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) room and an environmental chamber. Superlab has 280 workstations equipped with headphones and computers that allow direct communication between teachers and students during on-going tasks.

London Metropolitan University has sports, fitness and wellness facilities both on-campus and off-campus. Courts for tennis/basketball/netball/volleyball, artificial football/rugby/hockey pitches, cricket pitches, natural grass football pitches are some of the outdoor facilities. Students can join in over 26 club sports. London MET sports teams represent in the British Universities College Sports (BUCS) championships and the London Universities Sport Leagues (LUSL). In addition, there are support facilities for sports related support and injuries.

There are two gym facilities at the London Metropolitan University– one main gym in the Science Centre, Holloway Campus and an exercise room at Aldgate Campus. Pre-booking a day before or a week in advance is required to access gym facilities. Gym hosts state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, and offers both recreational and fitness-focused classes for students. The School of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University has a special workshop called Makeworks. The workshop has facilities for digital manufacturing such as Rapid prototyping - 3D printing and CNC routing. There are also specialist wood workshops, musical instrument workshops, upholstery, finishing area, metal fabrication, and model-making workshops in Makeworks.

There are five cafeteria and dining facilities on the campus at London Metropolitan University–The Junction, Blue Met Lounge, Highbury Canteen - seating only, Costa Library, and Atrium Cafe. Students have something to eat three times a day whether it's a lunch meal or evening snack. There are costa coffee outlets, and a mini-Starbucks in the Learning centre for quick coffee, tea, pastry or sandwich. Atrium cafe serves bakery, hot, cold drinks, grab and go food etc.
