About Glasgow School of Art

Glasgow School of Art was founded in the year 1845 by the pope’s decree Papal Bull and this is the fourth-oldest English-speaking university. This university was also part of Scotland's Scottish Enlightenment. Glasgow School of Art Admission and Application

Students having the intent to apply to the Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art admission must submit the applications. The Glasgow School of Art has a big process to follow and this ensures the admission process happens without a hassle.

Undergraduate programs

Students must apply through UCAS for undergraduate programs.

  • Go to the college website -gsa.ac.uk

  • Click on the study option, then click the undergraduate programs present under it and choose a preferred subject.

  • On the UCAS portal, enter the institution code after registering, and search for the subject via the degree finder.

  • Enter all the essential details and attach the required documents, and submit the application, but verify and check out the scholarships and the visa procedure.

Postgraduate programs

Students can apply to programs via the university website.

  • On the university website -gsa.ac.uk, click on the study option on the main page and then click on graduate programs under it. 

  • And, select a preferred subject, and undergraduate program, click on “How to Apply”.

  • Then further click on the application form present how to apply.

  • Enter the required details and attach the required documents and submit the application and check out the scholarships.

Documents Required

The students need to arrange all the required documents in order to ensure the Glasgow School of Art admission process happens smoothly. The documents required are as follows

  • Completed online application form

  • Digital portfolio that must not exceed 10 pages

  • Statement of purpose (a precise but critical self-evaluation of the student’s work and the reasons for wishing to join the program at GSA, approx. 500 words)

  • Evidence of academic qualifications (Certified photocopies/Transcripts)

  • Two academic references or letters of reference.

  • Evidence of English language proficiency e.g.IELTS or TOEFL (if appropriate)

  • Copy of Passport (if appropriate)

  • UK student visa

  • Copies of financial documents

  • Certified translations if the document is not in English.

Glasgow School of Art Eligibility

Students from India

The academic requirement for UG is a first division pass or over 65% (B2) (6.5/10) in grade 12 can be considered. And for PG good grades in a 3-year bachelor's degree – more than 65 percent and for 4-year bachelor's degree programs, students with 60 percent are also considered. After 4 years of higher education, a graduate diploma from one of the top design schools in India is also acceptable.

Students from Oman

Academic requirements for UG are passing Thannawiya Ama with at least 80% and PG applicants require an upper second or a CGPA of at least 2.7.

Students from Switzerland

Academic requirements for UG are a minimum Grade 5 or Guy/Bien/Bene in Maturitätszeugnis, Certificat de Maturité, Baccalauréat or Attestato Di Maturità. And PG applicants need a Diploma. The following grades are required: no less than 4 on a 1-6 scale; no less than 3 on a 1-5 scale; no less than 7 on a 1-10 scale or Gut/Bien/Bene.

International students need to have an IELTS for UKVI academics with an overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all components.

Library

Glasgow School of Art has both online like InfosmART and offline library services available for students. The library has some of the finest art, design, and architecture collections in the UK. The aim of the Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art is to provide students and staff with access to high-quality resources, information, and services including access to a wide array of ICT facilities. The library building also known as the GSA library is located on the corner of Renfrew Street and Scott Street. The opening times of the library are from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 9 pm and on Saturday and Sunday, it is from 10 am to 5 pm.

The Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art has Glasgow School of Art Sport which is a new association run by students to encourage sports, activity, and fitness throughout the students. It began in the year 2013 and evolved over time, now 13 different sports clubs and societies are present.

Mackintosh Glasgow School of Art believes in sustainable transport and eco-friendly travel. Thus, students can use cycles to travel or walk if they prefer. The students can easily use electric devices to travel which are rechargeable.

If the students are willing to commute using public transport then there are trains and buses available, with student passes that will definitely reduce the fare by one-third. The students can qualify for fare reductions if they are under 26 years of age or older but enrolled full-time in any program for bus passes.

Students can issue a Young Person's Railcard for £30 and save on most UK travel, whether it is by rail within or out of Glasgow. These cards are available to anyone between the ages of 16 and 26.

There is a variety of accommodations provided by the Mackintosh Glasgow School of Arts for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Students can decide either live on the campus or outside the campus in a rented private accommodation.
