About University of Canterbury

The University of Canterbury (UC) is a public research institution that was founded in 1873. It is located in Christchurch, New Zealand. As of fall 2022, the total population of the institution was 22,734, of which 16,105 were full-time students, 13,451 were undergraduates, and 2,654 were postgraduate students. The infrastructure of the main campus is around 190 acres (76 hectares).

University of Canterbury Scholarship

A variety of scholarships are available from the University of Canterbury (UC) that help students pay for their education. Some scholarships honour sports and educational achievement, while others encourage social participation and are awarded based on financial need.

UC International First Year Scholarship

Provides financial assistance of NZD 20,000, NZD 15,000, or application NZD 10,000. Students who apply for the scholarship in August or October must take up the scholarship in the year following the year of application.

Lloyd L Hosking Scholarship in Civil Engineering Undergraduate

Applicants must be enrolled for their final year of the B.E. (Hons) (Civil) degree programme at the University of Canterbury. The award amount is NZD 4,000.

University of Canterbury Summer Scholarships

Students work on a supervised research project for 400 hours (approximately 10 weeks) over the summer period (November - February).

University of Canterbury Eligibility

The eligibility requirements for the University of Canterbury may change depending on the course requirements; thus, new applicants must research the degree courses and confirm their eligibility. Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students - Undergraduates 

  • India School Certificate (ISC) An overall average of 75% with a minimum of 60% in English. 

  • Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC): an overall average of 80% with a minimum of 65% in English. 

  • Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Higher (Secondary) School Certificate: An overall average of 80% with a minimum of 65% in English. 

  • Karnataka Pre-University Certificate An overall average of 80% with a minimum of 65% in English.

Note; Indian students can submit their accredited institution score for english language proficiency. Only the eligible percentage can be accepted by the university.
