Peking University Scholarship

Peking University offers various scholarships to international students which includes the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS), Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS), or Peking University Scholarship (PKUS). International students from Confucius Institutes can also apply for the Confucius Institute Scholarship (CIS). The scholarships are segregated into full scholarships and partial scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded to academically excellent international students studying at Peking University. The students who have been granted scholarships are requested to participate in the annual review, and those who passi the annual review are eligible for next-year scholarship support.

PKU Scholarship Criteria and Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens of good health

  2. They must be admitted as an undergraduate or graduate student at PKU.

  3. Students should not be receiving other scholarship funds.

  4. They must not be either seeking a professional degree or enrolled in a Joint Degree program or an English-taught programme.

PKU Scholarship Duration:

  • Undergraduate students: 4 to 5 years

  • Master students: 2 to 3 years

  • PhD candidates: 4 years

  • Master/PhD candidates: 5 years

Note: The duration of the scholarship is fixed and cannot be extended.

Value of Scholarship: The scholarship covers tuition, living expenses (including accommodation subsidy), and comprehensive medical insurance for international students, whereas the partial scholarship covers only the tuition amount.

When to apply for the scholarship at PKU? Candidates can apply for a scholarship in late May. Candidates are required to refer to the latest notice on the website for the specific application date.

Peking University Eligibility

All international students are required to learn Chinese at PKU School of Chinese as a Second Language. Students who plan to take Chinese-taught undergraduate courses should have the certificate of new HSK6 (over 180 points). If they do not meet the Chinese proficiency, students may either take English-taught undergraduate courses for one or two semesters or learn Chinese at the School of Chinese as a Second Language for one or two semesters.

Note: Senior Visiting Students and Research Scholars are not required to take the Chinese language proficiency exam if they do not experience any obstacles in communicating with their supervisor.
