University of Glasgow offers 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time M.Sc. Media Culture and Society programme. The programme is a combination of social sciences and arts and its use in today’s media culture. One-third of the degree comprises of independent dissertation or collaborative group project. M.Sc. Media Culture and Society programme gives the students an opportunity to be a research-led expert on contemporary media. The programme provides employability in the sectors like NGOs, government bodies, media and cultural organisations, voluntary organisations and public sector. The programme covers urgent issues like identity politics, datafication, AI, power, inequality, hate-speech and trolling, surveillance capitalism, risk and security, war and conflict, privacy, trust and journalism and the Coronavirus global pandemic.
The M.Sc. Media Culture and Society programme is taught by international experts from Glasgow Social and Digital Change Group, Glasgow Media Group and talks from industry thinkers, key international scholars and visiting experts. Optional courses- Students can choose three options from the School of Social & Political Sciences or one of the options from outside of the School provision.
One-third of the programme comprises a group project, which has to be done with the help of dedicated supervisor. The group project has to be done in collaboration with two other students. The assessment of M.Sc. Media Culture and Society programme comprises individual written essays and assignments, presentations and group project work.
