Exam Date

There are no specific GRE eligibility criteria mentioned by the ETS to attempt the GRE exam. Candidates interested in taking the graduation courses, business and law school programs can attempt the GRE 2024 without any restrictions on gender, race, background, nationality etc.

As there is no GRE exam eligibility, candidates are advised to check the course and college eligibility requirements. GRE is an entrance exam to many master's courses. Generally to attempt the GRE for master's candidates need to complete graduation in the relevant UG courses. Similarly, students applying for the GRE for MBA admissions must hold a minimum UG degree and some years of experience as demanded by the B-Schools.

Candidates can check the below conditions which meet the basic GRE exam qualification.

  • Age Limit for GRE: There is no age limit set by ETS to attempt the GRE exam. Usually GRE is given by candidates who have already completed their bachelor's and planning to appear for a master's. However, students who are below 15 years of age need to be accompanied by parents or guardians of at least 18 years or older.

  • Education Qualification: There is no minimum educational qualification officially set by ETS. Usually, students who have completed or studying bachelor's degree apply for the GRE. As many master's courses require GRE scores, students shall complete a relevant UG degree to seek a master's. Generally, students appear for the exam after completing their undergraduate or while they are in their final year.

  • ID requirements:  Indian students need a valid passport to attempt the GRE at the test centre or at home.

The process for the GRE registration can be done through ways like online, phone, mail, and fax. Candidates can register for the GRE online at the official GRE website. Candidates are advised to check the available GRE exam dates before registering for the exam. Here is the online GRE registration process mentioned below.

Step 1: Visit the official GRE ETS website and create your account.

Step 2: Choose the type and mode of the GRE exam like home or test centre versions. If it is a test centre, choose country, city, and centre. The next step would be mentioning the GRE exam dates and times.

Step 3:  Enter the personal and academic details.

Step 4: Finally, pay the GRE exam fees and complete the registration.

How to register for GRE Exam: At-Home Test?

  • The process for GRE home-based test registration is the same as the test centre version, except for the choice of the test centre.
  • Candidates need to have the requisite equipment like a computer, compatible specified browsers, and an internet connection to attempt the GRE home version
  • The GRE at-home test is monitored by a human proctor online through ProctorU. At-home testing is available around the clock, 7 days a week.

What are the IDs required for GRE registration?

The ID required for the GRE exam depends on the test region and country of citizenship. For home-proctored GRE exams, candidates are required to present a valid government-issued ID.

For Indians the acceptable ID is a passport with few exceptions, all Indian ID documents must meet the following requirements during GRE exam applications.

Note: Any electronic ID issued to a mobile phone or any other electronic device is not acceptable. If the above conditions are not met by the ID submitted for the GRE, the application is liable to be rejected.

In order to ensure comprehensive preparation for the GRE test, candidates must practice mock tests and sample papers. The GRE mock test consists of sample questions that resemble similar exam time questions. Candidates can work on the GRE practice exam to develop an understanding of the exam pattern and time management.

Candidates can check various GRE mock tests free at the Careers360 website. Candidates should solve these papers in a timed environment to gain a semblance of the test day conditions.

Candidates can start the GRE prep by thoroughly understanding the exam pattern and scoring system. Preparing for GRE exam is not hard. It just requires more practice. The next step would be to collect the books that would help in GRE preparation. The last step would be to practise all that has been learned.

GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, and GMAT are standardized tests often required for admission to universities abroad, but they serve different purposes. The **GRE** (Graduate Record Examination) is used for admission to graduate programs and some business schools, focusing on verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing. The **TOEFL** (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and **IELTS** (International English Language Testing System) assess English language proficiency, often required for non-native speakers applying to English-speaking countries; TOEFL is more common in the U.S., while IELTS is popular in the U.K. and other regions. The **GMAT** (Graduate Management Admission Test) is specifically for business school admissions, testing quantitative, verbal, analytical writing, and integrated reasoning skills, and is required for MBA programs. Dear Student,

For admittance to premier universities like MIT, Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, and CMU, your resume must be exceptionally strong.

        • GRE - on the safe side, 325+
        • GPA of at least 110 and a TOEFL score of at least 110.
        • Do as many articles as you can, attempt to participate in research activities at your college, and if at all feasible, try to obtain patents.
        • Internships: I firmly feel that internships are important. Utilize your vacation time for internships, and attempt to concentrate on professions that are research-based or pure CS.
        • Extracurricular Activities: Present Papers, Participate in GSOC and Other Coding Events, etc.
        • Do two or more projects during your undergraduate studies, preferably ones that are linked to your field of study.
        • Work Experience - This is an optional consideration, but if you spend a few years in a top product company's R&D, it might be worthwhile.
        • Put a lot of time and work crafting your SOP and make sure it accurately expresses your reasons for obtaining an MS in Computer Science.
        • Get letters of recommendation from top management at your job and from research faculty at your college—they must know you!

Even if you address all of the aforementioned criteria, there is no assurance that you will be admitted to one of the universities you have named. When you make a decision, a combination of all these criteria will be taken into account, but these 10 ideas are a fantastic place to start.

I know someone who received acceptance letters from MIT, UC Berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon University for their MS and PhD programmes after scoring between 1400 and 1600 on the GRE. He applied with an excellent resume that included a 9+ GPA throughout college, two years of research in Microsoft R&D, and a few patents. Therefore, what matters is your whole profile.

I hope that helps! I wish you the best!
