United States Medical Licensing Examination
Hello Sanjay,
High school board has no bearing when it comes to USMLE eligibility.
The maximum attempts allowed for each step of USMLE is 6.
But the caveat here is, if you qualify for any step USMLE once, you cannot reappear for the exam again for the next 7 years
And since qualifying marks and good marks for getting good hospitals and branches are quite far apart, this means that you should only attempt USMLE when you absolutely sure of your preparation.
Because practically speaking, it’s as good as having only one attempt.
I hope this makes the picture a bit clearer for you.
Good Luck!! :)
Hey Vini, i will help you out with this.as you are enquiring about this i suppose you are already pursuing your mbbs. USMLE has multiples resources that you can prepare for , like KAPLAN,BECKER,PATHOMA,DIT,PICMONICS,SKETCHY MICRO PHARM,and qbanks like UWORLD, QMAX,KAPLAN and books like BRS ,HI yield and many more.basically its up to u to choose what u like or want, like how some like tripathi for pharm but some hate it and like tara or katsun. it basically comes to individual preference.but always start and end with NBME to assess yourself and also use FIRST AID,and UWORLD as your core resources. good luck buddy
Hello,
mle steps require time and energy and your full focus. Time taken for any exam is relative .
Preparing for any exam depends on your pace and time. It also depends on how far are you able to understand the exam pattern.
Normally a period of 6-8 months is necessary for step 1 but I have seen my colleagues take them in 4-5 months
Step 2 requires atleast 4 months of prep but it's relatively easier than step 1
Step 3 is the shortest preparing exam with just about 20 to 30 days
So usually a total of 1 year to 1 and half for all the steps. so after that you can start earning .
hope this helps you !
all the best !
Hey with just step 1 and step 2 , you are eligible to apply for interviews and see if you could get any residency program of your choice, but its advisable to do electives and get LORs and also good research publications and strong personal statement, as this will have an impact in your resume and boost your chances, good luck
Dear sarthak,
It's depends on the students. But on an average i think 13 - 15 weeks are sufficient for clearing the all 3 steps of USMLE.
THANKS FOR ASKING
