United States Medical Licensing Examination
Hi there.
All MBBS graduates of medical schools registered with the World Directory of Medical Schools are eligible to write USMLE and cracking which can opt for residency in USA.
I happened to search JIPMER in the World Directory of Medical Research (it is available online) but to my surprise I didn't find it there.
The result says "No record founds."
If that is to be believed then no you aren't eligible for USMLE.
Please make sure to double check with your college professors, authorities and friends about the registration of JIPMER with the World Directory of Medical Schools.
Hope this helps.
International Medical Gradutes (IMGs) who wish to take USMLE must fulfil two requirements-The medical school must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools which in your case it does.Candidates must also take ECFMG to appear for the Step 3 of the three steps United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US.USMLE will consist of three steps-Step 1: Multiple-choice examQuestions related to basic, integral science concepts to clinical scenarios will be asked.Step 2: This step will comprise two exams.Clinical Knowledge (CK) is multiple choice based exam designed to test the medical knowledge while Clinical Skills (CS) tests the clinical and communication skill through the aspirants ability to gather information from patients, perform a physical examination, communicate the findings to the patient, and write a patient note.Step 3: Multiple-choice examIn this step, candidate’s ability to apply the medical knowledge that he has gained is tested. Understanding of biomedical and clinical sciences necessary for the unsupervised practice of medicine.Good Luck!

Dear Khadeja,
Applying for B1/J-1 is more recommended. International medical graduates who have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK can seek ECFMG J-1 visa sponsorship to enroll in graduate medical education programs.
The J-1, a temporary non-immigrant visa is a visa commonly used by foreign national physicians and is reserved for participants in the Exchange Visitor Program.
Since J-1 was established to enhance international educational and cultural exchange between the people of the United States and other nations by the U.S. Department of State, this visa would be appropriate for you. However please keep in mind that exchange visitor (J-1) physicians are required to return home for at least two years following their training before being eligible for certain U.S. visas, so please keep this in mind before making your decision.
ECFMG has been designated as the visa sponsor by the US department of State for all exchange visitor (J-1) physicians who participate in clinical training programs. This sponsorship is also available for physicians’ eligible dependents.
ECFMG is responsible for ensuring that exchange visitor (J-1) physicians and host institutions meet the federal requirements for participation throughout the duration of sponsorship. ECFMG does not sponsor physicians for other U.S. visa types.
All initial applicants are advised to check their sponsorship eligibility. Detailed, up-to-date information on J-1 visa sponsorship by ECFMG, can be found at www.ecfmg.org/evsp .
Typical staying expenditure in US varies according to states and taxes, hence an average of 6000dollars fpr 6months should be considered.
Total expenditure for coaching, airfare, and all miscellaneous ezpenses like food and travel should sum up to 15lacs for total 1 attempt of exam.
Hello Abishai,
There are no test centres for USMLE Step 1 in Ukraine. The closest test centre in a neighboring country is the USMLE Step 1 Prometric test centre in Hungary.
Hello Sarthak,
You cannot take the MCAT during the MBBS, its an exam and not a course. Opting for the USMLE after the MBBS would be a better option.
The earnings will depend on the college you graduate from, and your specialisation. But the USMLE is a license to practise as a doctor, and MCAT is the exam to get educated as a doctor. You have to take both together to start earning.
Thanks for the question.
You should try and pursue mbbs from india
Afterwards, you should apply for the USMLE and become a resident doctor.
Pursuing usmle is a long and tedious process.
The cost of usmle for all three steps come around 6 to 10 lakhs.
Dear,
Yes it is the right time to apply.
And the minimum marks in each steps are
Step 1: 194
Step 2 CK: 209
Step 3: 196.
I hope this will help you.
ALL THE BEST.
Hello,
I don't think you can practice in India without MCI.
