As a medical graduate from India, can I give step 2 ck in Canada on visitors visa ? If not visitors which visa is required ?

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 3rd Jun, 2019
It is quite tricky to apply for the right Visa to appear for Step 2 CK exams. The reason being the reason why you are applying for CK exams is to be able to work and practise in the US. So, irrespective of the reason why you want to appear for this exam, it is an untold truth that you want to migrate to the US now or at a later point in time. Right now, it might be just a Visitor's Visa or any other Visa but the long term plan might be to migrate to US and work there. With US Visa rules getting stricter it might be a tough call to take. There have been candidates whose Visa has been rejected though they have applied either through Visitors/B1/B2 visas. There have been few Candidates who have been lucky too. You will have to get in touch with any Immigration Consultant as what might be the right step in this regards.

Dear Aspirant!

The United States Medical Licensing Examination(USMLE) is 3 step exam for medical candidate to practice in the US. MD degree physicians must pass this exam to practice medicine in the US. But if one is not US/Canadian trained then that person cannot take the USMLE part 2 without getting through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. After you pass the USMLE 2, you need to do 3 years training. After you pass USMLE part 3 and complete a US residency, you may get job in US.

Types of job opportubities:-

  • In surgery residency program, the applicant can enter into super speciality surgical branches.

  • In radiology residency, it involves CT, MRI and USG and later into radiology.

  • Due to availability of large number of residency spots, internal medicine is preferred. Many Indian graduates gets success in securing residency spots in internal medicine, family medicine, psychiatry.
  • Many research fellowship in the form of assistants are also available.
