i am doing bsc medical microbiology from india. this is 3yrs course & 6 mnth intern so am i eligible for MCAT exam after my bsc

anirudha vats 12th Apr, 2021

Hi,

Well it is very important for you to know one thing that is there is no concept of Mbbs in US and Canada. Mbbs is there in UK Australia and other European countries. MCAT is for US and Canada and for that you need to complete pre medicine track for one year in US after your undergraduate program to be eligible to apply for medical school.

I hope this helps.

All the best.

Hello I am doing BSC Medical microbiology from India. Course duration is 3 yrs and 6 mnths intern so after that am I eligible for MCAT

Hey Rishabh,

  • A candidate is eligible for taking the MCAT if he/she plans to attend a health professional
  • Aspirants are required to have an undergraduate degree before applying. Applicants usually complete the following courses before applying to US medical schools:

One year of biology

One year of physics

One year of English
  • Two years of chemistry (through organic chemistry).

Special Permission

If you arent planning to apply to a health professions school or if you're a currently enrolled medical student (other than a MBBS degree program), you must obtain "special permission" to register for the MCAT exam.

  • To request special permission, please send an email to mcat@aamc.org, stating the reason(s) you wish to take the exam. The MCAT exam office will attempt to review and respond to your request within five business days, although during certain times we may be delayed in our ability to reply within this time frame. We therefore ask that you be mindful of registration deadlines, because staff cannot extend closing dates for any reason.

  • Technically you require 4 years of undergraduate study to be eligible. However, my suggestion is that you apply for special permission, stating that you are a student for B.Sc. Medical Microbiology and also the duration of study and that you want to apply for a Medical School.

I hope you find this helpful. All the best!

HELLO I COMPLETED MY PHARM D AMI ELIGIBLE TO WRITE MCAT EXAM

Urvashi Dalal 23rd Feb, 2018

Hi

See the basic eligibility mentions that if you have either studied or studying MBBS you are eligible to apply. But in your case, where you are enrolled in some other medical programme you need to apply under 'Special Permission' category. The officials will evaluate your profile and will revert with your application acceptance status.

The officials have mentioned this on their website under FAQ section

"Special Permission

If you aren’t planning to apply to a health professions school or if you’re a currently enrolled medical student (other than a MBBS degree program), you must obtain "special permission" to register for the MCAT exam.

Hi Harkiran,

If you intend to pursue a health professional course in USA/Canada, you can take the MCAT. The process for international candidates is slightly complicated. Please go to International applicant to know more about the process.
