I have 7.04 CGPA and having 2 years of experience if i want to apply for MIS course in Unversities like Arizona, what would be least GRE score at least i shall have?

bhallaaamna 25th Jul, 2020

Hi ,

The minimum GPA required by good universities for MS abroad (including Arizona) is 3 on 4. Since you already have a little low GPA , you really need to score well in the GRE Exam. You should be able to score atleast 320+ to get into a decent university.

The positive in your application would be your experience as it really counts and gives you an edge over others.

All the best!

Sir, Im a biotechnology graduate and I want to do my MS . Please tell which exam would better to pursue the same, GATE or GRE?

Trisha Bhattacharyya 23rd Aug, 2020

Hello.

  • Firstly, your higher study degree must reflect the kind of job you are seeking in the future. Is it something related to research and development, or in the teaching sector or in the corporate world- that is the most important thing that needs to be sorted out first.
  • Next, your GPA and the internships also play an important role in deciding. Universities that accept GRE scores, pay a lot of weightage on the internships that you have done till date, the letters of recommendation and your published papers. On the other hand, the institutions that accept GATE scores such as IITs, NITs, BHU, etc pay equal weightage on your overall GPA and your interviews.
So, in short, if you have GPA in the higher range of 8-10 then you can go for either of them and if it is in the lower range of 6-7, go for GRE.
  • The other important thing that you need to keep in mind is competition. About 20-22k students appear for GATE BT every year, while it is over a lakh for GRE takers.
  • The syllabus for both differ as well. You need basic English knowledge, verbal reasoning and speaking skills for GRE and only subjective knowledge for GATE.
  • Please note that MTech from prestigious institutions in India such as IIT Bombay have as much value as a degree from abroad. So decide wisely.

Hope this helps.

What is the score required in GRE and TOEFL for Masters in Data science in Carnegie Mellon university?

Aastha jain 14th Jun, 2020

Hi

There is no definite cutoff score. There is no assurance of getting an admit from CMU even if a student has a perfect score of 340. The decision depends on a variety of factors. A GRE score above 325 would be a decent bet for CMU. However, the GRE score needs to be complemented by a balanced profile, strong letters of recommendation and a well-written SOP

A good CGPA, relevant research projects and publications, internships, previous academic records, and work experience also contributes greatly.

As far as TOEFL is concerned, even the bare minimum should be enough. It is only a proof of your knowledge  in English.

Hope this helps!

What is the required GRE score (in special subject i.e. physics ) to get admissions in Caltech masters programme in astrophysics.

Shivang Dubey 9th Jun, 2020

Hey Ravi

California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) does not consider GRE scores only but judges an undergraduate student on overall performance for admission into Masters. There have been various situations where in student's got admission with an average GRE score but had an excellent academic and extra curricular activities. You need to have the following to increase your chances of selection:

  • Good Statement of purpose (SOP)
  • Extra Curricular Activities
  • Good Academic record with accomplishments

To be on a safer side one should score 320+ in GRE, and be in the top 90th percentile.

If I want to go to uk, canada or usa to pursue higher studies, which exam should i give? GMAT,GRE,SAT,ACT, TOEFL OR IELTS? Also, please give me a comparisons between these exams

Anantika Kushwaha 30th Apr, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

The type of exam should you give depends on the University you're looking for and also the course.

SAT or ACT is basically for Undergraduate courses while GRE and GMAT is for Postgraduate courses. TOEFL and IELTS are basically English Proficiency tests. They are given by the candidates whose native language is not English, it too varies according to the university. Every university has it's different criteria but if you're looking for Undergraduate course then you should give SAT as it is accepted by many universities and the language exam based on what the university is accepting.

How to shortlist the universities that matches your profile and is it advisable to apply with the low GRE score if GPA is satisfactory?

Anantika Kushwaha 13th Apr, 2020
Hello Aspirant,

Try searching for the top universities and apply for them. If your GRE score is low but above the required score then a strong LOR of SOP may compensate for it. While selecting the candidates GRE is not the only criterion taken into account.

I want to join MS colleges in US by Jan 2021, so when is the best time to write GRE?

Anantika Kushwaha 8th Apr, 2020
Hello Sneha,

A GRE score is valid for a span of 5 years. If you're going to take online exam then you should give the test in August or September as if by chance the exam messes up. You can give another exam after a span of 21 days.
