United States Medical Licensing Examination
Hi
Indian medical students can give USMLE step 1after second year of MBBS
For registering yourself in USMLE, you have to create account on ECFMG and fill form for USMLE.
And proceed with the application then wait for your schedule.
Once you clear level 1 and level 2, you have to go to US for clinical exposure.
I hope it helps
Hi,
After doing your residency program from USA, you can come back to India to practice medicine but you will have to give the licensing exam in India cause without that your degree won't be valid. And then once you qualify, you can join any hospital depending on where is the vacancy available and what are their demands and can start practicing medicine in India. There is no such thing as placement in India for doctors as in where the university or college will get you jobs like in engineering colleges.
I hope this helps.
All the best.
Once you are done with MBBS in India and wish to study further in US then you are needed to give USMLE exam which has three steps. NEET has no relationship with studying medicine abroad. You will have to qualify all three levels of USMLE and then get into residency program at a hospital and further study through residency for specialised field.
There is only one degree that you get in US for Medical education that is MD and after that you directly go into residency program after completing your internship. Once in residency, you further move ahead to choose your field of specialisation to become a specialist in a certain field. USMLE is given at the end of medical education by students willing to get into residency program on the US. Also you study in your residency program for your specialisation and no other degree study is required to be done separately.
Hello there
It's a competitive specialty for foreign graduates in the USA. Candidates need high USMLE scores, US research experience, publications and conference presentations to get into a residency program.
After the USMLE exams and MBBS, in your intern year try to do a month or two of elective training in one of the American universities . After that find a research job in the department of Surgery for the next year. Once you are there try to publish some good first authored papers, and as many co-authored papers as possible and also attend conferences.
All the best
Dear Aspirant,
PG in the USA after MBBS in India.
The system for healthcare professionals or physicians in the USA is closely monitored by FCEMO which systematically conducts USMLE. Indian students trying to pursue postgraduate medicine in the USA after completion of MBBS need to prove themselves at every level again.
At the bachelor level by way of giving USMLF-1 exam and USMLE 20K This exam is highly competitive (Though much easier than Indian NEET-PG). The exam is online and can be given from India. However, the course content and testing questions are quite different than the 19 subjects taught to you while pursuing MBBS in India. The following are the steps:
Step 1 - USMLE
Step 2CK - USMLE
Step2CS - USMLE
Step 3 - USMLE
Practice.
In the USA, an Indian student after completion of MBBS cannot practice directly since the basic level of study to practice is postgraduate medicine in the USA. USMLE has clearly defined the medical courses after MBBS to be completed in the USA. To qualify for the Residency (Board certified PG while working in a Hospital under work permit). After MBBS the above exams needs to be cleared, the Indian doctors have to pass the above exams exam with high marks (230+). During this period, the students can give USMLE-2 CK exam in India to qualify for Residency in the USA. The doctors can then apply for a work visa in the USA once they get the residency confirmation
There is no specific statistical data available to show what percentage of people from Assam can practice as a doctor in US. But a study showed that nearly 150 students did medical studies in US and out of which only 75 were able to get into residency program and half of which were finally able to come out as doctors in respective fields.
