The GAMSAT or Graduate Medical School Admissions Test is a standardised test for admission into graduate medical programs and some other health-related fields. After clearing the exam, candidates are qualified for medical universities and colleges in UK, Australia and Ireland. GAMSAT 2026 exam is a computer based test conducted by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). There are no GAMSAT exam centres in India. Hence, Indian students planning to appear for the GAMSAT test must appear for it through remote proctoring mode. Students must verify with the targeted university abroad whether GAMSAT 2026 is a crucial requirement for admission into graduate-level programs.

The following are some of the reasons why one should take the GAMSAT exam.
There will be two sittings of the GAMSAT 2026 exam. Candidates can appear for the exam date that is aligned with their application cycles. Typically, the GAMSAT exam dates will lie in late March and mid-September. As the application for the GAMSAT 2025 September exam has already closed and the exam has taken place, the next GAMSAT date will be in 2026.
The GAMSAT results are released approximately 2 months after the date of examination. So, for the March sitting, it will release around late May, and for the September sitting, it will release around mid-November.
Apart from the difference in when you can apply with the results from these exams, there is no other difference in how your performance is measured in both of these sittings. Everything is now moving towards a digital format; nevertheless, students still require the same level of preparation as before to clear this examination. There is no penalty if you appear in the September GAMSAT; in fact, several students look at it as a second chance to improve their results for the next admission calendar without having to wait for a whole year to reappear again for the examination. Here are certain advantages to this:
Alternatively, several students consider the September GAMSAT as a 'practice test' so as to understand the areas where they are lacking and to get an idea of the GAMSAT exam before appearing for it 'properly' in March.
Ultimately, it depends on you whether you wish to sit for a March or September sitting, but the September GAMSAT results are equally valuable to the March GAMSAT results, and you can apply to medical school entry applications with the results of both.
There have been several speculations that GAMSAT in September could be easier. The reason behind this speculation could be that fewer people sit for the test in September, which means less competition. This could result in a higher average GAMSAT score for the September sitting. However, this is not the case. With the help of statistical judgements, the regulatory body ensures that the level of difficulty for both the March and September GAMSAT is the same. They also ensure the degree of difficulty is the same.
The GAMSAT is taken for graduate entry courses. To apply for the test, check the below GAMSAT eligibility criteria 2026.
Graduates who completed a bachelor's or UG honours degree are eligible to take the GAMSAT exam to enrol for graduate-entry courses in medical schools.
Candidates can take the test only if their preferred course accepts the GAMSAT test.
Even if the candidates' first degree is in a non-scientific field, they are also eligible for GAMSAT.
When to take GAMSAT for MBBS? Few universities require international students to complete a UG degree before applying for MBBS, So they can take the GAMSAT examination to apply for the MBBS.
Once you have checked the eligibility, you can proceed with the GAMSAT registration 2026. Check the below steps to undergo the registration process.

Candidates can select the remote proctoring delivery module for the following categories.
For the written communication test component
For the humanities and biological sciences test component, only when the test centre or country is 3 hours far away.
So Indian students can choose remote proctoring for both the test components of the GAMSAT test.

Universities in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland use the test to admit students to graduate-level medical and health-related courses.
Yes, a GAMSAT score of 75 is considered good, and places students in a highly competitive category for admission to medical schools. Most universities consider scores above 70 to be excellent. This score shows strong performance of an individual across all sections and increases the chances of getting an interview or being accepted into the selected university.
The March month will be more suitable for the admission timelines of Australian and Ireland universities. Whereas, September month will meet the timeless for the UK admission cycle. So candidates can check their admission timelines and select the best date to take the GAMSAT exam.
Candidates will receive the admission tickets 2 weeks before the GAMSAT exam date. The admission ticket will be given only for the test centre sittings. Students for remote proctored settings will not be provided any admission ticket.
Students who have completed or are still in the final year of the bachelor's or undergraduate honours degree can take the GAMSAT test to enrol on the graduate entry programs of medical schools.
