Difference between NEET Minimum Qualifying Marks and NEET Admission Requirement

MBBS aspirants often get confused between the NEET qualifying marks for MBBS abroad and NEET cut-off admission requirements in India. Students are required to qualify the NEET exam to be able to do MBBS abroad. They are required to meet the qualifying score requirements for the country they are applying for. On the other hand, just qualifying NEET is not enough to get admission in government medical colleges in India. Due to limited seat availability in India, the NTA (National Testing Agency) determines the NEET cut-off for students. It depends on several factors like the total number of test takers, level of difficulty of the exam, seat availability, reservation policies, and NEET cut-off trends over the years.

Questions related to NEET

Have a question related to NEET ?

Students can get into BVSc without NEET by passing state or university-level exams. A few colleges in India may approve direct admission if one meets the Class 12 mark criteria. Check the specific rules for admission each college you are interested in has set.

While having a NEET score of 318, it is unlikely that a woman will be able to join a government medical college for MBBS. An alternative would be to try private medical schools or to look at other paramedical careers.

Your chance of getting into a government medical college under the All India Quota (AIQ) is minimal if you get 390 marks on NEET 2025 as an SC. However, the cut-off scores change from one state to another, in State Quota Counselling.

Medical colleges affiliated with the government are:

The SC cut-off in states such as Tamil Nadu is close to 420-440 marks. It may be that 390 out of 400 is not adequate.

In places like Maharashtra, students must get between 460 and 480 marks on their test to be eligible for the SC category which is extremely difficult.

Private Medical Colleges

- Private colleges accept students with low marks and you could qualify with 390.

Private colleges in Tamil Nadu may accept lower scores for admission such as 380-410 for SC category.

- A score of 400-430 may be considered by private institutes in Maharashtra for SC category.

Possible Options:

Signing up for counselling for State Quota seats may lead to lower cut-off scores.

Check the various private medical colleges across the nation.

- Try out states that aren’t very competitive for education like Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram or Sikkim.

Cut-offs might be different due to seat availability, number of applicants and similar reasons. You should go to the NEET counselling website and get guidance from professionals for the best results.

Hello Aspirant,

A score of 401 in NEET 2025, home state Bihar, OBC category means you have a fair chance for BDS seats in government dental colleges via state quota. As seen over previous admission years, BDS cutoffs for OBC category candidates in Bihar under the 85% state quota have fluctuated around the area of 380 – 420, depending on competition and the college individual boards. That said, admission chances still vary each year depending on number of applicants, levels of difficulty NEET attains, seat matrix modifications, category rank. I would say you will participate in state counselling and you should apply for every government BDS options available to you and also consider mop-up rounds since once in a while there will be seats where cut-off will be lowered due to vacant spaces.

Hello,

Scoring 316 in NEET makes it quite hard to get a government seat in India, especially in MBBS. Private colleges are very costly, so many students look at options like Nepal.

Studying MBBS in Nepal is not a bad option. The syllabus is similar to India, the language used is mostly English, and the culture is also quite close to India. Many Indian students go there every year.

But before deciding, think about these points:

  • Do you want to drop a year and try again? If you are confident and ready to work hard, you can give NEET one more try.

  • Can your family afford Nepal MBBS fees? MBBS in Nepal is cheaper than private colleges in India but still costs a good amount.

  • Are the colleges in Nepal recognised by NMC (India)? Only choose NMC-approved colleges, or your degree won't be valid in India.

So, yes, going to Nepal is not a bad decision, but dropping a year is also an option if you are serious about improving your NEET score.

Hope it helps !
