- In today’s highly competitive engineering profession, a degree from just about any engineering college wouldn’t take you very far. It is because there is a growing demand for highly qualified, more efficient and specialised professionals who can take on the new challenges that lie in front of mankind. But to address these challenges, students need to get into top institutes, many of which are located abroad, and which cost bucket loads of money – driving away prospective students in the process. However, such students needn’t despair as there are many top scholarships for engineering students that can help them fulfill their dreams.

By availing of these top scholarships, aspirants can not only survive the steep fees of top engineering institutes in Europe, Australia and the US, but  can get enrolled into their dream institutes and brush shoulders with the best students and explore world-class facilities. Most of these scholarship programs, apart from taking care of students' tuition fees, also pay for their travel and living expenses.

Some of the top scholarships for engineering students are discussed here:

The DAAD Scholarship is extended to qualified students who want to pursue full-time study in Germany. The scholarship is offered across majority of the engineering disciplines.

Scholarship amount: The average monthly scholarship amount is € 650 for students, € 750 for postgraduates and around € 1,000 for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates. While the scholarship amount is determined by the applicant’s academic qualification; the normal trend is that the more qualified the candidate, the higher is the scholarship amount.

Age limit: There is no age limit for applying for DAAD scholarship and proof of good English language is sufficient; students needn’t have to be proficient in German unless they are applying for a course in the arts, social sciences and law where some proficiency is expected.

Eiffel Scholarship: Established by the Foreign Ministry of French, the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme is among the top scholarships for engineering students seeking to take up Masters and PhD courses in higher educational establishments in France. The unique program seeks to shape future foreign decision-makers in both the private and public spheres, especially in the priority sectors of study. Another aspect of the programme is that its Master’s course seeks to help emerging countries, while the target of the PhD programme is emerging and industrialised countries.

Scholarship Amount: For the Master’s programme, the scholarship provides a monthly allowance of €1,181, including a monthly stipend of €150. Apart from that, expenses incurred by scholarship holders like social security cover, cultural activities and one international return journey are also covered. That is not all as there are also provisions for additional housing allowance. At the PhD level, the monthly allowance is €1,400. The other benefits are almost identical with the Master’s programme.
